“this is for the fools. the misfits. the rebels. the troublemakers. those round pieces in the square holes. those who see things differently. they do not like rules and they have no respect for the status quo. you can quote them, disagree with them, glorify them, or vilify them, but the only thing you cannot do is ignore them. because they change things. they push the human race forward. while some see them as crazy, we see genius. because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are those that, in fact, change it.” - apple’s think different campaign (1997) taken in Las Vegas, Nevada by @samanthajyee

i’m a nerd so bear with me, but i just logged off a @stanford zoom seminar and this is need-to-know information! according to studies by dr. marian diamond at my alma mater, @ucberkeleyofficial, there are 5 crucial factors to brain development at any age and they’re fairly simple: 1) diet, 2) exercise, 3) challenge, 4) newness, and 5) love. that means there’s 5 easy steps to grow your brain, improve your mental speed and memory, and stay innovative and creative as a child, adolescent, or adult. while taking care of your body and eating well is standard practice if you’re trying to stay forever young, mental stimulation is equally important and you don’t even have to do much. you just have to do something NEW!! bonus points if it’s difficult or it scares you to death at first. ☺️ (see, there’s a science-backed method to my madness.) taken in Woodside, California by @samanthajyee

sometimes i wonder what i’ll miss most at this age and it’s a toss-up between being able to eat 40 garlic parmesan tots on my own without gaining weight and the face bartenders make when they clean up my empty plate. 🪞🤳 taken in Palo Alto, California by @samanthajyee

many, many years ago at a party i choked on my drink because someone told me that the average person reads 2-3 books a year. for as long as i can remember i’ve read that much in a day. i just finished reading ‘a more beautiful question’ by warren berger, which explains how asking the right questions is the key to breakthrough ideas (and ultimately, success) and how the rote learning we push in schools actually takes away children’s creativity and thirst for knowledge. the more beautiful question, the book purports, is not simply why things are the way they are, but why can’t it be a different way, a better way? the question “why not?” creates solutions, helps companies innovate, and helps people live fulfilling and purposeful lives. so if there’s something you truly want, if there’s a human struggle you see a solution to, why not, why not, why not... taken in Redwood City, California by @samanthajyee
