"Flow state"...complete absorption in a moment or activity. Things fade away, headspace clears, locked in.

It's a rare feeling, one that you know when you feel it but can't quite write down a recipe for.

I found a special moment of flow with Nick this past week in the Tetons. On our third day of a base camp trip we were booting up a couloir in the pre-dawn hours of the morning. We'd taken photos of the rock crux from the lake the day before, photos that looked pessimistic to us. For hours, the day before, we waffled on what to do. Ultimately, we agreed to give it a go, to remain patient and wake up early.

On mission days, I find there's a moment before you start down when you realize it's gonna 'go'. This time, it was around 5AM when we reached the crux chokepoint on our climb up. I turned around, shouting a 'f**k yeah dude' to Nick, giving him a pole tap. The choke had plenty of width for skis.

Special conditions make for special days. Had a special day in the hills with @lane.aasen yesterday climbing and skiing Baker's North Ridge (plus the Park Headwall for some sneaker pow). This spring has been finicky and unpredictable. Thankfully this time we went out, found out, and lucked out. by @samchaneles

How do you share experience? Lately I haven't been sure how to. And that's okay!

The last 2 months have been full of many different puzzle pieces. I've had some really fun mountain days, some really fun non-mountain days, and some really not fun days. C'est la vie.

Yes, these are highlights that don't capture the every day moments of life...but these few moments really stand out to me and felt worth sharing. by @samchaneles

Took a long walk out Gold Creek and found face shots.

Yesterday @kyle.mccrohan and I linked up the Glacier Lake Couloir and the south face of Chikamin Peak. When Snoqualmie is good it's quite special.

And Dad, for all those times you whine about there not being photos of me skiing, here's a few for you. Thanks Kyle for the pics.

Last Friday, @porter.mcmichael and I skied the Coleman Glacier Headwall on Mt. Baker. It’s a line Porter has been looking at for 5 years and attempted twice, and one that I’ve been keen on for the last 2 seasons. It’s properly steep, exposed, and fall-line…all the makings of an excellent ski mountaineering descent.

Last Friday I was overjoyed with our accomplishment. We did the thing. A week later my feelings are a bit different…

I don’t use Instagram for sentimentality or feelings often, but I feel it’s right to be honest about how I feel amidst all the stoke and blower pow videos. I wrote much more about the day on my blog (not trying to plug it, just limited by characters here), but in short:
1. There 7 other people ahead of us, which felt wrong for such a big line. Granted we started at 7AM so what did we expect...but still.
2. We never broke trail, had to route find, or really do any of the ‘heavy lifting’ other than just skiing the thing.

A week later, I keep on circling thoughts like “I wish we’d started earlier” or “I wish I linked up more turns consecutively” or “I wish I made that one jump turn there instead of there.”
I guess maybe it’s a sign that I’m older or some shit like that… by @samchaneles

Annual pilgrimage to the Wasatch is a wrap and man it was fun. Deep pow, lots of faffing, and good people. Thanks to @danny_and_aiya @nicholaspearsons and @mattrandall9 for showing us WA peeps around. Having @nick_murad @lane.aasen and @ekinney4 join made it even better :) by @samchaneles

Winter looks a little different this year. Stoked to make a trip up north to Canada with @lane.aasen. Awesome vibes, crazy scenery, and some good soft snow. Rogers Pass is endlessly captivating. by @samchaneles
