Here is some information about the historical figures on Korean bills:

<₩1,000 – Yi Hwang (Toegye)>
• Who he was: A prominent Confucian scholar and philosopher from the Joseon Dynasty.
• What he’s known for: He is revered as a master of Neo-Confucianism. He established a private academy (Dosan Seowon) to teach students and focus on ethical self-improvement.

<₩5,000 – Yi I (Yulgok)>
• Who he was: Another influential Confucian scholar and politician of the Joseon Dynasty.
• What he‘s known for: He was a child prodigy who provided strategic advice to the King regarding national defense and social reforms. Interestingly, he is the son of Shin Saimdang,

<₩10,000 – King Sejong the Great>
• Who he was: The fourth King of the Joseon Dynasty and one of Korea’s most beloved historical figures.
• What he’s known for: He created Hangeul (the Korean alphabet) to help his people become literate. He also oversaw great advancements in science, music, and technology. appears on the ₩50,000 bill.
