Dear Grandma,
Time.
Time is a tricky concept that I don’t think can ever truly be understood. What makes time difficult to understand is that the more we try to understand time, the more time passes by. As the days fade and mesh into weeks, weeks compound to months, and months transform into years. The more I begin to realize; what really is time? The good news is that as more time flies by, the more memories, accomplishments, laughs, smiles, cries, successes, failures, relationships, and most importantly, love, we get to experience. I wish I could control time, but time is the dictator of the experience we call life. While time is finite, that is not what makes time so powerful. It is about the way we press against time to make life exactly what we want it to be. For then we become the controller of life.
While you may be gone, you are never forgotten. Time gives us our life on earth, but spares the everlasting amount of memories, adoration, support, beauty, and care you gave me. The amount of lessons and insight I have absorbed from you shapes me into the man I am becoming.
It is not about the fact time is up, it is about how you spent the time you had. The walks in Christopher Morley Park, the sleepovers, the Sunday dinners, the trips to Roosevelt field, and of course the chicken and broccoli combo from Happy Garden.
That some damn good time spent.
So this is not a goodbye, but a thank you.
Thank you for your time.
I promise to spend mine making you proud.

Immersion.
Living abroad for a month leaves me no choice but to become immersed. Immersion is the catalyst for a chain of shifts leaving me no choice but to become changed. Change is not something we can force, but rather become part of our consciousness. I look back to what thoughts filled my brain an hour, a day, a week, a month, and a year ago and come to one conclusion: Change is always happening. Stress never vanishes, it just changes. Moments don’t disappear, new ones just take the spotlight. People we meet don’t become strangers, they take on different roles in our lives. The more we try to conform to something we are not, the less change occurs. Humans hate change by nature. Riding against the grain of new stimuli is uncomfortable, but you have to ebb before you can flow. As the days burn, weeks disappear, and months vanish, make every change count. So am I a completely changed person from living in Buenos Aires for a month? No. However, I am a more enriched person from the people I’ve met, the places I’ve visited, and the observations I’ve made along the way.
It’s all thanks to one thing.
Immersion.
