Shot on the @oppomalaysia Find X9 Ultra and lit with @aputuremalaysia Amaran 660C’s and PT2.

——

When I was deciding on what camera to shoot this with, I eventually opted for the FindX9 Ultra for two reasons.

I wanted the photos to be sharp throughout. So not much bokeh and focus falloff anywhere. The smaller sensor in comparison to my Hasselblad/Sony system meant I didn’t need to trade depth of field for exposure. Running RGB and constant light meant maximising light output. Stopping down to F11 just didn’t cut it. The phone also has some pretty decent AI retouching built in, which meant lesser post processing for the immediate turnover.

Secondly was for my own ego. I read a post somewhere where a photographer asked with all the sponsored post from photographers using phones, how many dare to use it on actual shoots. There’s a huge argument to that but basically, here you go. Proof it’s not the gear by the thought and process behind it.

Technically, there are some downsides to shooting with the phone. Highlights clip faster at base ISO and the process is not as fast as with a camera. But you can still tether to a laptop and image quality is just as good for controlled environments like this.

Very proud of the results and being able to work on a project like this.

It’s been a couple weeks with the @alphauniversemy FX5 and I think it’s THE upgrade to the Sony FX3. Both usability and image quality has definitely improved albeit a little lacking in others. Using the @tiltamax cage here. Wish more of their FX5 accs were available :(

I think the three main reasons for upgrading from the FX3 are:

TRIPLE BASE ISO
• much easier to manage between the 800, 4000 and 12800 instead of jumping between 800 and 12800 only

COLOURS
• pretty much a match to the FX6 and above. Sure, a great colorist can match between different cameras but them much closer straight out speeds up the workflow

• FX3 skin tones always felt a little green to me but the FX5 skin tones are šŸ‘Œ

OPEN GATE/RAW
• I didn’t really want to like it this much because I think open gate is overhyped. But the implementation here works eventhough it’s currently raw only. My kind of work doesn’t require raw but X-OCN C2 is very data friendly. Overall, not as difficult to shoot open gate on this camera

Overall, a very solid update from the FX3 and I would 100% upgrade if you need the features. Only thing I did was I wish I bought with the top handle and not just body only. Economics also work out if you purchase now as it’ll be another 5 more years till next upgrade.

(Also can we talk about the new 8-14mm fisheye??? GODDAMN ITS LOOKING TO BE PERFECT. Wish it would be available faster) taken in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by @samguw

Switzerland is unreal. Second time here for work and it’s as beautiful as I remember in 2025. I have no idea why the colours there are so saturated, even in person. Absolutely gorgeous colours.

Shot all these photos with the OPPO Find X9 Ultra because even though I had my full Sony A7RVI setup, I was mostly running wide angle lenses. And for some reason, it’s super difficult to capture the landscapes with a wide angle. Having up to a super telephoto in the Ultra just made the scenes come to life.

Also shot all of these on the back of a speeding bike because we were chasing our subjects. Really crazy I managed to get these while we were at 80KMph AND a helmet that was covered with dirt.

These really are scenes to remember.

A brief moment with the new Sony FX5.

3:2 Open Gate
XOCN internal raw
5K 60p
4k 240 (in future update)
IBIS
32 bit float
Detachable EVF
Bigger battery
Triple base ISO

On paper, this is hands down the best spec sheet for the price. In the hands, the FX5 performs as expected, delivering a great image with superb handling. It matches with existing Sony cameras and is positioned right below the FX6. To me, the FX6 is still the king with the e-ND but it’s definitely lacking a few features. The FX5 bridges the gap the FX3 should have been to the FX6.

Love the new detachable EVF but it’s a shame you can use the handle and the EVF at the same time but I think @mid49accessories has something that solves this!

Battery life on the FX5 is mad. The new battery introduced in the A7RVI was a game changer for me and it’s the same on the FX5. I haven’t measured it, but it feels about twice the length of the older battery.

AF has also been improved. Much stickier and I feel more confident with it but it every gen gets better. The screen is also far larger but honestly feels flimsier to open and close. A fantastic edition is finally the built false colour!

One important note is that if you are looking for an amazing hybrid camera, do not get the FX5. It cannot take stills. Abit strange to me as the FX3 could have and it’s considered a cinema camera too. Sony seems to finally be course correcting its FX line to video only.

I do think that the FX5 is worth the investment as Sony has shown a great track record of updating cameras over the years. My beloved FX6’s have gotten major updates and I’m sure the FX5 will be getting much love throughout its lifetime. I’ll definitely be picking one up! by @samguw

Received this beautiful cage for the X2DII from @falcam_global awhile back.

The cage itself prioritises design fit and accessibility above all else. It’s mainly there as protection if that’s why you need. It fits the camera near close to perfection almost as if it cane with it. It adds an arca swiss L plate at the side and a hiding spot for an AirTag (which I think ALL cages should have).

The finish itself is beautiful but will wear down overtime. After a month of using it, I’ve got nicks and discolouring which I guess tells me it’s doing the job of protecting the camera from daily use.

The video doesn’t show it but it takes awhile to put on. Unlike most cages that can be done in a few minutes, it took my close to 15/20 mins to set the whole thing up. Granted, I was also filming but the cage isn’t something you can just take on and off. Lots of small screws but that’s part of having a flush design. It doesn’t rattle or move around when installed on the camera.

Also, if you are very particular, during the setup the cage actually scratched my camera so be extra careful if you like pristine cameras.

Overall, I think the option to add the AirTag is huge feature and worth the price of the cage alone. The added feature of the L-bracket and extra protection is a bonus and the design is the cherry on top. Would definitely recommend. taken in The Golden Lounge by @samguw

Another unboxing journey. Pre-ordered the @alphauniversemy A7RVI on launch and just got it a couple of days ago.

Initial thoughts:

- NOT an A1 mark II killer
- Would have loved to see a dedicated USB cable because a lot of cables I own didn’t work
- new batteries are BRILLIANT. But more expensive
- mechanical shutter is much quieter. Much better
- why no external timecode??

Quite interested to see how this stacks up to my Hasselblad X2D II.

Thanks Sony for getting this to me earlier! by @samguw

Always happy when I get the chance to support products made by other photographers and this is one from my good friend @onemoreshot.cc

It’s basically an open carry for one more SD card where you can hang pretty much anywhere you want. 3D printed in a stunning orange (my favourite colour), it stands out without being too tacky. The spring loaded mechanism inside feel just like your SD card slot in your camera. From about a hundred clicks from me, it feels pretty sturdy and robust.

As a hardcore user of my tools, there are some areas of improvement I’m hoping to see in a gen 2. It’s quite tight from the get go which I’m hoping will loosen overtime. My biggest concern will always be when it comes to open carry is safety. Memory will ALWAYS be my priority over anything else. Cameras can be replaced but the content cannot. I understand the open carry concept is for it to be quick but I would love to see a spring loaded to cover with a small latch/lock system that will only open when I want it to. From experience, anything that can go wrong will go wrong and I don’t want my cards to be part of it.

Would also love to see other card types, particularly CF type A as I’ve completely removed SD cards from my work rotation.

Super excited to see where these guys take One More Shot. Camera gear needs to start having face lifts to not be so boring and and this is a really nice start from a Malaysian team! by @samguw

Live music will always have a place in my heart and part of it is trying to find unique ways to share my perspectives within limitations.

Took these photos of Jaclyn Victor during an incredible show with the OPPO Find X9 Ultra and Hasselblad 300mm Explorer Teleconverter as well as on the master mode. Just being able to get extreme detail shots from the back and front of house on a camera this small has been really incredible.

I remember starting my career in music photography with an entry level DSLR and kit lens. I struggled like MAD to get close up shots and I can’t believe what was so difficult years ago I can do with a camera that fits in my pocket.

A real world comparison between the Oppo Find X9 Ultra and the Hasselblad X2D 100C II. The Hasselblad’s sensor renders some of the most accurate colours I’ve seen and at almost 5.5x times smaller, the 1 ½ inch sensor on the Oppo is quite similar in all but the hardest conditions.

The photos here are straight out of camera with no tweaks to colour. I only slightly adjusted exposure and slight crops to make both images somewhat identical. When it comes to architecture/landscapes, they are extremely similar. Colours are slightly deeper and richer on the Hasselblad but the Find X9 Ultra looks nicer overall when it comes to portraiture with it leaning slightly warmer and saturated. However, the Hasselblad is closer to real life but both render skin tones really well. Both are excellent cameras for portraits.

Yes there are more minute details to nitpick but I personally shot with the Find X9 Ultra than with the Hasselblad. Having an ultrawide lens up to a 10x zoom on the phone makes getting a variety of shots much easier than needing to change lenses.

They are both equally enjoyable to shoot with and I am pleasantly surprised by how well the Find X9 Ultra holds up in comparison to the X2D 100C II.

From speeding bikes to extravagant shows, chasing thunderstorms to the mundane everyday. Still super impressed with how the OPPO Find X9 Ultra took all of these photos.

I wanted to force myself to shoot everything using the Hasselblad Master Mode, which was essentially being able to manually adjust all your settings just like on a normal camera. For me, being able to decide how the image is captured e is just as important as the photo itself.

I’m particularly proud of being able to capture the lighting completely on manual. 300+ photos and probably 2 of them had lighting in them.

Something I’ve found is that the noise at ISO 800 is quite pleasing, giving it a sort of texture without ruining the photo. Master Mode on the phone has a softer image right out of camera making the photo more camera-like.

Definitely some of my favourite travel moments I’ve taken in awhile!

Portraits of China on the OPPO Find X9 Ultra.

Where the phone really shines is capturing portraits. I really love the way skin tones are captured, the subtle fall off of the bokeh as well as being able to capture a lot of details with the Hasselblad 200MP mode. I usually prefer shooting with portrait mode for the bokeh but something interesting I’ve found with the Find X9 Ultra is that its 1/1.12 inch sensor for the 200mp mode has more than enough bokeh for portraiture.

An added feature I don’t see many people talking about is the skin retouching feature. It’s actually really really good and looks really natural. I used it quite a bit together with the 200mp as you do capture way more detail and sometimes that means emphasizing the unflattering parts too.
