MVP @ Zilvermeercross

Came out to Belgium this weekend to hit Zonhoven tomorrow and realised last night that there’s elite cross every day out here, so got to hit Zilvermeer today as a last min bonus.

My first time out at a UCI cross race and it didn’t disappoint 😅 Beautiful sunshine all day until this.. total blizzard for a 2 hours. Unprepared, cameras getting soaked, fingers so numb I couldn’t feel the shutter button.. and moving around like a bit of a mad man trying to find gaps in the crowd (there are none) so fire off some different angles.

One or two keepers. :)

Got a set of the women’s race too but I’ll share that another time because I’ve already spent way too long in the back of the van going through these 😅

Belgium cross cherry popped. Zonhoven tomorrow ✌️

Edit: Zonhoven is not tomorrow. I don’t know what day it is 🫠

Stage 16 - Individual Time Trial and they were SHIFTING

Definitely would be slapping on the 70-200 today if I had it but the 35mm is forcing me to think different and that’s why I left all my other lenses at home 🤘

5000ft above sea level witnessing the maddest race on earth.

It’s my second day out here and still battling chronic indecisiveness. I was plotted up at the finish line for 2 hours before deciding to walk 1km back down the mountain to find the fans. Was in the wrong spot in hindsight for the leaders but found some frames after they came through.

Ps I decided to only bring one camera and one lens (35mm prime) with me on this trip, so this week, we zoom with our feet. (31000 steps clocked today)

Thing about shooting stage racing from the sidelines is you only get one chance and your first shots (of the leaders) should be the best. Today they weren’t but I’m here all week and got another 7 goes at it.

Doing these consistently really helped me as I took the leap to become a professional photographer… and they could help you too. The content creation bit probably is the biggest factor if I’m honest. I know that divides a lot of opinion and isn’t what a lot of us want to be spending our time doing but in reality I’ve actually come to enjoy it and can’t see a world in which I could have done such a hard career shift without telling that story on here. by @samhodges.co
