Welcome to my little world šŸ§ššŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I realised recently, while being interviewed by an art collective, that when I take photos, I tend to gravitate toward elderly people on their own. And here’s maybe why :
Some of my favourite shots are of elderly men and women simply being with themselves. For a long time I never questioned why, it just felt right. It was only while talking about my photography recently that I started looking deeper into it. I don’t take many pictures, and I don’t rush. I wait for a certain feeling before I press the shutter.

I’ve always had my head in the clouds since a young age, I was always somewhere else.
I recently met a new and kind stranger who told me that being in my own world isn’t such a bad thing. I started to reflect and make peace with it. And when I did, I realised that’s exactly what I’ve been capturing all along. They aren’t just lonely elderlies. They’re people in their own little worlds, just like me.

I used to think I was photographing a kind of sadness and melancholy (maybe sometimes I do). But it’s so much more than that, these are entire worlds I’ll never fully know, but can simply imagine.
I limited myself by assuming I was just a « sadĀ Ā» person photographing « sadĀ Ā» people. I’m not. Every picture is a different story, a different emotion, a different life.

The photos are a mix of all my favourite memories captured in different places, people I know and strangers over the years. by @samiasaad___

Welcome to Karakas Family business.

My dearest friend @hilalkarakaas invited me to spend a day with her at her father’s workplace, where I got to meet some of her uncles and cousins. It is a family affaiiir. Everyone was very kind, even with the language barrier we managed more or less to understand each other, and if not I had my personal translator, Hilal, bless you!! šŸ«‚
The dad explained every step of how a pair of shoe is made. How it used to be and how it is now, with the growing demand on the markets, the financial capacities people have nowadays, what used to be better/worse and was is simply our reality today. It’s interesting to see the evolution of the products, the difference in quality and the designs, what concessions you need to make to survive as a business in this world while not betraying your own values.

Feeling very grateful to have had an inside on how this atelier works thanks to the Karakas Family. šŸ¤ by @samiasaad___

Close ups from Istanbul.

The shiny black shoes. And the hands that clean them.
The Chai maker wearing bead necklaces. And the smoking hand waiting patiently for his Chai.
Chai in one Hand, tasbih in the other. Tasbih in one hand, having a chat near the water.
The shiny shoes above water. The hand showing something further.
Holding the tasbih in the hands. The hands holding each other.

The tasbih (or misbaha) holds a special place in my heart. There’s something deeply soothing about watching people’s hands glide from one bead to the next, their lips softly reciting Dhikr. I’ve always admired this practice from a distance, quietly, respectfully, never wanting to intrude, yet deeply moved by the serenity it seems to bring.
I may not fully grasp the connection others feel with Allah, as my own beliefs are still a journey in progress.
But I do understand the spiritual growth, mindfulness, and inner peace the misbaha can inspire.

Since my last summer in Lebanon, I’ve carried one with me, almost like a quiet guardian. Jahjah, an old friend of Amo Moustafa, gifted me his just before | left, and it hasn’t left my side since. taken in Istanbul Türkiye by @samiasaad___

Some unposted pictures from my trip to Lebanon this summer - I’ve been away from home the past weeks and not able to work on a physical project.
Hope you’ll feel the warmth and love through the pictures <3

After a long time not returning to my other home country I really wanted to capture the moments and feelings they give me. From elderlies reconnecting with my dad, telling stories about their youth - discovering the coffee my oncle is roasting himself (stepping into the footsteps of my grandfather - best coffee around Anout!!) while waiting for our manaouche gibneh - discovering places and landscapes that you don’t want to forget - looking for shells with my little cousines - feeling the sun on your skin like a warm hug - watching each wave move with so much grace and beauty - passing by the same man selling his fruits and vegetables each day since I’m a little girl - chitchatting always and everywhere with everyone & strangers - family playing backgammon everywhere you go because your dad found an over 100 years old one in a souk - the kind man showing me his old but still functioning leather machine he’s been working with to repair shoes in the souk.
No place is perfect but those moments made it almost feel like it could be… by @samiasaad___

Hands.
Loving hands.
Generous hands.
Resilient hands.

Two weeks into my trip to Lebanon, the war broke out again, though over the past years, we have faced near-daily attacks from the same forces driven by greed and violence.

Many people in my village told me they became used to most of it… to the sound of bombs and missiles falling too close, to warplanes shattering the sound barrier overhead, to the sight of displaced families fleeing from the south and Beirut to seek refuge in the mountains.
Becoming used to all but also not used at all. Because how can an entire country become so used to such suffering? How can people grow, used to displacement, death, and the constant fear coming back over and over again, from 1978, 1982, 2006, 2024–2025, and now once more?

Yet, when the situation worsened, I couldn’t bring myself to leave. I had to stay. I’ve never felt more at home than in Lebanon.
I was fortunate enough to be with my family, to relearn Arabic, to reconnect with my culture, heritage, and roots, my village and country.
I recognize my privilege and luck, being in a relatively safer area of Lebanon, holding an EU passport among other things, and knowing that, if I chose to, I could leave at « any momentĀ Ā», unlike many Lebanese people, including my own family, which don’t have that option…

I hope that one day, Lebanon and my people will find peace and protection. May they no longer have to endure the weight of war, displacement or fear. May they be safe, united and free to live with dignity and hope. May the oppressor be condamned and punished for terrorising and killing so many innocent lives. May Palestine, Iran, Sudan and all other oppressed people be freed from those same bloodthirsty monsters.

Paris. Octobre 2025.

I want to share with you another passion of mine on this account. You might have catched a glimpse of it in some of my previous posts… it’s photography.
I’ve seen special moments and wished for so long to not loose those memories… but it’s not possible, we see so many things everyday that those magical little moments end up lost in a drawer of memories. They are there. I’m sure of it, but I can’t see or remember them, when I please. So sometimes I try to catch those special moments to be able to look back at them and feel again what they made me feel when I took them.

Hope you feel something when you see my little series.

Last week, I spent some time in Paris, and it turned out to be exactly what I needed. The trip was emotional, eye-opening, inspiring, topped with a new learning experience.
I took part in a workshop at @atelierlapatine, where I made my own upcycled leather bag. I learned so much! Choosing the color and shape wasn’t difficult at all; I instantly fell in love with a piece of royal blue leather. It spoke to me right away.
With guidance from Anne-Claire, one of the teachers at the atelier (a very funny and kind woman), I learned every step of the process and crafted the bag myself.
The workshop covered the basics of handmaking a leather handbag, but it left me craving for more. taken in Paris, France by @samiasaad___
