First time in TWENTY YEARS we donā€™t have a kiddo going ā€œback to schoolā€. Whatā€™s even crazier is in a few weeks we have a GRANDBABY going to preschool!!!! Man, itā€™s hard to believe. This year Gospel, Worthy and Oxton are homeschooling again-Iā€™m not gonna lie, it all happens so fast that Iā€™m thankful they are home. Gospel & Worthy are seniors and come to work with me some days, and some days we are home together. They love working on life skills like organizing, cleaning, sorting, things in the kitchen, etc. Ox is a sophomore & works at Proclamation Coalition part time and is focusing on learning Japanese, and on art, poetry and other subjects that are of high interest to him. Heā€™s a creative for sure!! Maybe I will have those three take a back to homeschool pic when we officially get underway. We are on our own timeline and September is looking perfect to get back to it. Early August is just crazy. šŸ˜‚ This is the place the last few years weā€™ve taken back to school pics. As I left for the office this morning (another wild life development for someone whoā€™s been a stay at home mom for just shy of 26 years) , I looked up and saw this childless spot. While everyone else around us was headed to school, my heart was both full and broken taking a pic of no one . Life flies by wayyyy too fast for me, and yet we are walking in the fruit of raising children and them growing up-it truly is such a beautiful blessing. Soā€¦..although itā€™s not easy, Iā€™m going to choose to look at this empty space where BTS pictures used to be and see the treesā€¦..God has allowed us to live in such a stunning, peaceful place. I will choose to be reminded that there is beauty in every season, even when it aches a bit. Life is so fast šŸ„ŗ. by @samirigelsky

The world is blessed to have had you for 47 years, Iā€™ve been blessed to have you for 26 of them. Soleil & Cedar is planted among the fragrant cedars of the Texas Hill Country, with roots reaching to CiteĢ Soleil, Haiti-bringing two worlds together. Every purchase supports families and communities in need. Iā€™m Sami, a Jesus lovinā€™ wife of 25 years to Joey & mother to our 8 incredible children + 2 son-in-loves, a daughter-in-love, and grandma to the sweetest 4 little girls there ever was. I adore sunny days, heated blankets, dark chocolate, tacos, decorating, creating, empowering other mommas & fighting injustice. In 2014 Joe & I were in the process of adopting 2 of our children, who have Down Syndrome, from China when I found myself standing across the room from a heart-broken mother in a malnutrition clinic & orphanage in Port Au Prince, Haiti. What I saw and felt that day changed the entire course of my life and, God willing, many other lives. I was contemplating our own children living in an orphanage as I watched mothers agonize over their ailing precious ones. As I watched them attend to their fragile children my heart was stirred & moved. Tears streamed down a motherā€™s cheek and in those life-altering moments I felt swallowed up by the puddle I knew she had wept over her child. The thoughts racing through my mind were ā€œNo mom should have to watch her child suffer or die because she canā€™t provide. No mom should have to leave her child behind. No child should have no mom.ā€. In those breaking and building moments something was birthed deep within me. Moving from Haiti to Texas presented me with a season of wondering what was next. How would I marry the two worlds that I hold so dear? Insert Soleil & Cedar. I will not relent in my dedication to mothers and children around the globe. Soleil & Cedar exists to fight for families & communities in need. I fight for families in Haiti by curating fair trade items around the world that provide artisans with livable wages & by getting them into the hands of people who want to punch poverty with me. I donā€™t know how itā€™s possible that our sweet Worthy is SEVENTEEN, but she IS. Today we celebrate this God-gifted and given girl, one who is WORTHY of all of the good this world has to offer. I canā€™t fathom that she went from discarded in China to CELEBRATED around the WORLD. Only He could write a story like hers!! Worthy Psalm is a gift to all who know her, sheā€™s full of pure goodness, a bit of teenage sass and is overflowing with laughter, joy, kindness and every lovely thing there ever was. In your 18 years of life youā€™ve proven that a young person can follow Jesus, hold to conviction, spread joy, mercy, love and grace, lead with integrity, be humble, patient, and absolutely PRECIOUS. A HUGE CONGRATS to our son Dorian and his lovely fianceĢ Elizabeth are in order!!! These two graduated today with their Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences degrees from Texas A&M University!!! We couldnā€™t be prouder of their hard work, dedication & grit. We are especially grateful that A&M brought them together during sophomore year RA training. The greatest gift we could have received was adding a daughter to our family thanks to A&M!!!! My plant has inspired me. I almost killed this thing. Thanks to my sweet friend that repotted it for me, it has fresh new life springing forth. I donā€™t know about you, but Iā€™ve been having the life sucked out of me by social media, among other things. Thereā€™s just too much out there, too much to consume, too much to process. Just. Too. Much. Instead of getting rid of social media all together, Iā€™ve decided Iā€™m going to only follow our kids & our ministries for a season (Joe doesnā€™t have social media-a wise man) The beauty is that each of them has either cut back from social media, or rid themselves of it all together, so that will also decrease my time here. I am reevaluating many things in my life & this is a top one for me. Iā€™d like to do the same on Facebook, but sadly it would take me FOREVER to get down to just my family. So, I will start with Instagram and see how that feels. Maybe thatā€™s next. Iā€™ve already deleted TikTok off of my phone and thatā€™s been beautiful and time-giving for me. If you see that I donā€™t follow you anymore, please donā€™t take it personal. I donā€™t want to throw the entire baby out with the entire bath water, so we will see how this goes. Iā€™d encourage you to also evaluate ways that you can simplify, regenerate your dying limbs and prune what may be pulling you down and away from what is most important in your life, too. I love him. šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ A couple of weeks ago I saw that he sent his big sister money on Venmo so I asked him what the occasion was. It turns out, all of the siblings sent him some money to spend while Ox was visiting him. Turned out that he had leftover money from what we had all sent him, so he sent it back to them and gave Aiyana a little extra. His heart is huge, he will always give away his last dollars, even if that means he canā€™t do his own laundry. ā¤ļø by @samirigelsky

Dorian Vatoreā€¦.22 blows my mind. In your 22 years youā€™ve proven over and over again to be patient, loving, kind, compassionate, gentle, forgiving, wise and truthful. You have taught me so much about faith and life and I hope someday to be even a fraction of how beautiful you are as a person. You made me a boy mom and Iā€™m so grateful that you led our pack of boys and have been such a strong voice in our entire crew. You are a servant leader, a super glue that bonds our family together. Last night our sweet Sailor was the Narrator for the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony at her high school. This year she was the President of NHS and passed the gavel on to the upcoming senior that will carry the torch for the next school year. I am so proud of not only how hard Sailor has worked academically, but also that she is known for her CHARACTER. Above any accolade our kids could ever receive, being known for being loving, kind, servant-hearted, and a friend to all will always be the best part for us as parents. At the end of the ceremony tonight Sailor received the Outstanding Member Award...as soon as I saw in the program there was an award for that I started filming, and as soon as the teacher started speaking about the recipient I knew it was Sailor because itā€™s just WHO SHE IS. A gem, an absolute treasure. If you know Sailor, you love her. The truest form of goodness resides in her. She has taught me so much about grace, faith and persevering in prayer. Sailor, I adore you.
