You’ve spent years becoming someone other people can depend on.

It’s worth asking what those same skills could build for you.

If you’re curious about creating something alongside the life you already have, welcome. I’m Sam, and that’s a conversation we’ll have plenty of here.

Have a look around. You might recognise more of yourself than you expected.

Comment “EXPLORE” and I’ll message you so we can talk about whether a travel business could suit you. by @samkinchlife

You won’t believe how simple it is.

I thought starting a travel business would be far more complicated than it was.

Turns out you don’t need every step figured out before you take the first one.

My holiday research had taken longer. Which probably says something about me. by @samkinchlife

You’ll happily give a new colleague six months to find their feet.

You’ll tell a friend who’s starting something new that nobody expects them to know everything on day one.

But when it’s your turn?

Suddenly you think you should have all the answers before you’ve even started.

You want to know you’ll be good at it. That it’ll work out. That you won’t look silly trying.

And while you’re busy waiting for that reassurance, another six months goes by.

Here’s something worth remembering.

You don’t have to know how to build a business before you start one. You learn by doing, asking questions, making mistakes and getting better.

And you certainly don’t need to have your whole life figured out before exploring something new.

I’ve been building a travel business alongside my corporate career, and one of my favourite things is helping other people see what’s possible for them too.

So if you’ve been curious about starting something of your own, take this as your invitation to have a conversation.

Drop me a DM or comment TRAVEL below.

No awkward sales pitch. No pressure to join anything. Just a proper chat about what it involves, what you’re hoping to achieve and whether it could suit you.

Six months from now, you might be very glad you asked. ❤️ by @samkinchlife

The airport parking comment is only partly a joke.
When you’re thinking about starting your own business, it’s easy to absorb somebody else’s version of what success should look like.

A bigger number. A better car. Something impressive enough to announce.

I think it’s worth being much more specific.

What do you actually want the business to make possible? What work would you enjoy getting better at?

What would make the effort worthwhile to you?

You can take building a business seriously and still have fairly ordinary plans for the rewards.

More travel.
More choice.

Something you’ve built and feel proud of.

They don’t become smaller ambitions because they wouldn’t make an exciting “look what I bought” reel. by @samkinchlife

You’d tell your friend she was more than capable.

Then talk yourself out of the exact same thing on the drive home.

Funny how your belief in everyone else comes with no conditions, while yours needs three qualifications and approval from a small committee.

You already bring plenty to the table. You listen, organise, solve problems and follow through. Those things count when you’re building something of your own, too.

Of course there will be things to learn. There were things to learn in every role you’ve ever had. You gave yourself a chance then.

Give yourself that same chance now.

Pick the thing you keep saying you couldn’t do and ask yourself what you’d need to learn first. That gives you somewhere to start.

You don’t have to feel completely confident to take yourself seriously.

At some point, being your own boss means becoming the person who decides what happens next, instead of waiting for someone else to tell you.

That’s the less photographed part of working from anywhere.

The view might change, but you still have to make decisions, follow through and work out what to try when something doesn’t go to plan. The sunbed is offering very little supervision. 😂

You deserve support. People who teach you, challenge you and help you see what you’ve missed.

But there’s a difference between asking, “What should I do?” and saying, “Here’s what I’ve tried, here’s where I’m stuck, what am I missing?”

That second question is how you learn to trust your own judgement.

One of the best things a manager taught me in my 20s was to keep asking why until I could find the answer myself. More than 20 years later, I’m still using that lesson.

It applies whether you’re building a business, progressing at work or making a change in your life.

You won’t always feel certain. You won’t always get it right. You can still take the next step.

You can be well supported and think for yourself. The two belong together. by @samkinchlife

You can be good at your job and still wonder what else you could do.

Especially when everyone assumes you’ll be there forever.

You’re dependable. You know what you’re doing. People come to you for answers. But somewhere between the meetings and the journey home, you’ve started thinking about what you’d enjoy building for yourself.

Naturally, someone’s booked another meeting while you consider it.

You don’t need to hate your job to want more choice. You might simply want to put some of that effort into an idea you keep coming back to.

And you’re allowed to explore it before you have a finished plan or anything to announce.

Sometimes the person who looks completely settled is just being very sensible about their next step.

Send this to the friend you have those “we could actually do this” conversations with.

One little holiday video and suddenly you remember the whole afternoon. What you ordered, what made you laugh, how lovely it felt to have nowhere you needed to be.

This is why I keep filming those travel memories.

Also because returning mentally is considerably cheaper than booking another flight. by @samkinchlife

You can be good at getting through the week and still wonder where your life is going.

You work, sort the house, pay for everything, reply to everyone. Then suddenly another month has disappeared and that thing you wanted to do is still waiting for “a better time”.

Apparently that time arrives once you’ve finished everything. So that’s promising. 😂

I want to look back and remember trips with my sister, laughing with Tim, seeing somewhere new and having afternoons I didn’t spend watching the clock.

I’m happy to work hard. But I want that effort to give me more choice about how I live.

That’s part of why I’m building my travel business. I’m working towards having more say over my time and making room for the experiences I keep saying matter to me.

Maybe you feel that too. You’re grateful for what you have, but you’d like more of your days to include something you actually chose.

You don’t have to put every good thing off until retirement, until work settles down or until everyone else is sorted.

Your life deserves a place in your diary too.

Follow along as I build something of my own with that in mind. by @samkinchlife

You probably didn’t expect to still be thinking about it by now.

Starting a business. Trying something different. Making room for something you actually want.

But there was work, then a busy month, then something else that needed you. All reasonable. All real.

The uncomfortable part is how easily another year can look exactly the same.

You don’t need to change your whole life by January. But imagine reaching it with something started, instead of another promise to yourself. by @samkinchlife

I think this might be a sign I need to spend slightly less time on Instagram. 😂

Apparently there’s a Couch to 5K challenge on TikTok, and my first thought was genuinely, “Five posts a day? That’s a bit ambitious.”

Not once did it occur to me that people might actually be getting off the sofa and running.

To be fair, building a business around a full-time job does involve a fair bit of mental gymnastics. Surely that counts as exercise?

Please tell me I’m not the only one whose brain has been completely rewired by social media. 😭😂

And for the record, I’d still rather do the five posts. by @samkinchlife

What if your commute looked like this?

You’re walking through Rhodes Old Town, choosing a café where you can catch up on work before heading out to explore.

Slightly different from standing on a platform while someone apologises for the inconvenience. Again. 😂

Perhaps working in travel has never crossed your mind. You’ve already got a career, responsibilities and a calendar that apparently belongs to everyone else.

But you’re also the person with saved hotels, a list of places you want to visit and your next holiday taking shape before this one’s finished.

You enjoy researching places and putting a trip together. You just hadn’t considered that becoming an independent travel agent might be something you’d enjoy too.

And perhaps what appeals to you is having something of your own that doesn’t depend on being in the same place every day.

There’s still training, work and responsibility. The location changes, the need to turn up doesn’t.

But being able to choose where you open your laptop could make a difference to how you spend your time.

Follow me for an honest look at building a travel business, what’s involved, what I’m learning and where I’m taking mine along the way. by @samkinchlife
