I have been dreading the shift of tenses.
from being present to changing, immediately, to the past tense. is to was. love to loved. i’ll see you tomorrow to i’ll see you when we meet again (i know this is not a change in tense but bear with me). now that we’re here, I promise to keep you in the present tense every day by shining your light through me.

There are not enough words in any language to express the pure joy that my mom is and was. The outpouring of love my dad and I have received, the stories, the messages from friends that haven’t been spoken to in decades - it is clear that you all saw her the way I did. An incandescent display of integrity, genius, artistry. The definition of what it means to be a good mother. A good wife. A good friend. She was all and more.

She always told me when she passed she would be the wind. As I find a new appreciation for the breeze everyday, I promise to start every day with gratitude. To see the humanity in every single person. To spend the rest of my life honoring you. I will try my absolute hardest.

Those who know us know that we were more than mother and daughter. She was my sun. It has been the honor of my life revolving around you, mommy.

I will be brave for you.

JAPAN 2025-2026
The most amazing trip and time with my love. We travelled for 40 hours together, experienced the other side of the world, and ate the most delicious meals ever.

We got to Japan after a 14 hour flight and got to gorge on 7/11 snacks - in Japan, they get fresh food every day and honestly some of my favorite meals were from Japanese convenience stores. Literally 11/10.

We shopped til we dropped, visited a Samoyed cafe (pictured), Tsujiki market (best sashimi I have ever eaten and my fave meals), teamlab Planets (the most amazing immersive art exhibit, where the flower and metal orb pictures are from), so many beautiful shrines.

We spent New Years in Kyoto and were blessed enough to witness Hatsumode, the Japanese New Years first shrine visit tradition. Although I spent most of the trip with a yucky cold, I felt like we were on cloud 9 the whole time. We were also blessed enough to take a day trip to Kamakura and Enoshima Island and saw the Great Buddha.

We sang karaoke, drank matcha, ate our weight in ramen and nigiri, and got our steps in for sure lol. This is the first of many Japan posts, I am so grateful for this trip and the ability to do so 🫶 taken in Japan by @sammitennant
