The Team behind the Team. It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt, and then it’s a sport!

You might be surprised to know that we have volunteer doctors on hill with us for every single training day and race days. They spend hours sitting at the top of our courses getting a close look at what the daily grind looks like. They operate as a rotating pool of volunteer doctors who pay their own way to help insure us the best medical coverage when we need it the most. Summer update from down south! Follow along as we begin next seasons prep now. It is always a rude shock to the system traveling from the warm summertime temps of the north hemisphere to the frigid mid winter climate of being at 55 degrees south latitude at the bottom of Argentina. A lot of people ask me what we are actually doing starting skiing so long before the first races in November so I wanted to speak a bit to what this time of the year looks like. Very grateful for another successful year of FAST Camp. It’s extremely rewarding to switch to the coach and mentor role for this week each year to offer what I can to these young athletes who are hungry to grow.

I spend much of my time when on the road the rest of the year planning for this one week. From booking reservations, securing insurance, running registration, and fielding questions from parents. Its amazing when all that planning comes together.

Big thank you to my staff, the athletes and their families, and the prayer warriors from afar who all make this camp a transformational experience. 🙏

⛰️ THE FIFTY 🥾

The Dartmouth 5️⃣0️⃣ is a time honored tradition to travel on foot the 50 miles from Moosilauke Lodge to Dartmouth’s campus (or vice versa). It’s an event far too normalized amongst the Dartmouth community for the craziness it truly entails but it’s also the kind of thing that makes this community special. While we were sad to not be able to experience the event in its full glory, it was still an incredible experience to see what our bodies could do and spend some solid hours on one of the most renowned trails in the country.

The details:

51.3 miles
13,530 vertical feet of gain
15:02 moving time
19:13 total time
♾️ calories consumed

Lessons learned:

- Porcupines like to share the trails at night
- Filtering water takes a lot of time
- But also, the body can’t function without water
- Going down eventually hurts too
- Salt & Vinegar pringles are always a great idea
- Wet feet are inevitable in New England springs… just commit to the river crossing early
