Come out and Join Us for a Community Listening Session! Michael Haas and I are hosting the Parade St Community to discuss our art residency project. The session starts at 6pm by @samones.art
Samone & Benyamin Aysan share the moment in poetry. Samone read her original piece entitled, Window Lantern, while Benyamin drew select words in a traditional calligraphy style. Invisible Threads: Community Discussion on Systemic Racism Perry Square: August 8th 6pm In the aftermath of the protests for racial justice that swept the nation in June, Erie’s black community and community allies joined to demand an end to police brutality as well. The call to justice has left many questioning how authentic change in happen in a meaningful way. Samone, an artist based in Erie, in collaboration with David Tamulonis, of Erie Downtown Partnership, have arranged for a community discussion aimed at exploring the invisible threads that sustain the tenets of systemic racism. In this discussion we hope to bring attention to the ways--psychological, economic, civic, and sociological ways--residents in all communities contribute or experience the factors that allow marginalization to persist. Please join us in Perry Square this Saturday, August 8th, at 6pm for a public discussion in the park. Bottled water will be provided along with some participation incentives. We invite your presence, your insights, your ear, and your desire to effect long-lasting change. "In 2020, Erie Arts & Culture will facilitate seven artist-led, community-driven projects through the residency program. The agency sought artists who were dedicated to exploring the intersectionality between social, environmental, racial, and economic justice and the arts." https://www.erieartsandculture.org/blog/ by @samones.art
Wanted... ...Alive. by @samones.art
Wanted - What does that image mean to you? I see a person who is someone's son. I see all the sweat, blood, and tears shed seeking validation. I want to see this face in my mind's eye when I see the whole of humanity. I want freedom and justice for the "Wanted." by @samones.art
