Following on from our previous post we thought we could explore the psychological effects that rise when navigating unemployment but also the journalism around it. This is part 2 of our video essay.

We look at 2 case studies, the same case studies discussed in this Septembers video essay and how success looks different for each case study.

Sometimes it is about landing a job, most of the time it’s about landing the job that will fit perfectly in your routine and schedules.

SAMPL-23 is all about bridging the gap, so if you are someone who struggles to find opportunities, we aim to make that searching process a little less tedious & if you are someone who offers that help, we aim to share your incredible work.

Seeking ≠ Finding 🌱

People often leave education with the expectation that they’ll find employment and something that adds to their lives. As of recent, that has not been the case for a vast majority of graduates. @bbcnews @bbccwr have coverer and shared the opinions and expectations many young adults face today.

One thing we tend to forget to highlight is how lonely unemployment can feel. Not just because of social media but also coming to terms with not being where you planned to be in life. We have found that studies show that you’re not alone in this…and though it doesn’t feel okay, it WILL be okay.

Brilliant charities such as @cwwmind are there to offer mental health support for when you need it.

We may have taken a hiatus but our city definitely hasn’t this summer holiday!

There have been so many events centered around community and these are only a handful. A huge shout out to the independent and large organisations that bring people together! We are all about growing where you are planted 🌱

The UK Government has set the target of becoming “net zero” by 2050 this also takes into account the job market and career opportunities!

Green jobs in the UK are defined as ‘employment in an activity that directly contributes to or supports the achievement of the UK’s net zero emissions target and other environmental goals. It does not necessarily mean that the sector is green, but instead is working towards becoming better for the climate. The @coventrycollege @coventrycitycouncil @wmgwarwick all offer courses to help upskill the work force in Coventry to prepare for this shift.

Some local employers include:
• Severn Trent
• E.ON Energy Solutions
• Octopus Energy
• Synergy Power
• BD Builders Coventry Ltd
• Pk2 Construction Ltd
• Jaguar Land Rover

And many more across sectors like waste, transport, electricity, construction and sustainable design.

At SAMPL-23, we showcase real opportunities in Coventry, from creative pathways to skills boosting programs and training that help you build a future that works for you.

Stay tuned for more info, courses and local opportunities.
