Navigating the absolute chaos and charm of Dhaka is an experience like no other! From colorful artistic cycle rickshaws and buzzing green CNG auto-rickshaws to iconic city buses, river boats, and massive night ferries on the Buriganga—transportation here is a living, breathing culture.

Did I capture the pulse of Dhaka's streets and public transport, or is there a vibe I missed? Let me know in the comments! 👇

details
1. CNG : A caged auto rickshaw, to safeguard from snatching and burglary
2. Sadarghat Boat taxis : A unique economical taxi service to get from one end of ghat to the other for only 25 takas
3. Rickshaws (electric & paddle) : lifeline of dhaka city. (unlike cng, these are open sitting so burglars get fair chance to do their act :-) )
4. Bus : Find an unscratched one and I shall stop travelling
5. Ships at Sadarghat : The country of rivers connects cities of Dhaka with Barishal, Khulna (near sunderbans) , Patuakhali , Bhola, Madaripur , etc
6. Double Decker red buses : reminded me of Old Bombay
7. Mini bus : super crowded, one can go standing , hanging and seating in this :-)
8. Metro : just few days back, there was an athlete disallowed to board in shorts and T Shirt !!!! an exception but still these things happen in Dhaka

Conquer the thrilling 13-km Garbett Point Trek this monsoon! Starting from Bhivpuri Road, this trail takes you past Dikkhat Dam (Bhivpuri Lake), through Sagachiwadi village, and up a steep, rocky, and slippery trail to the breathtaking Garbett Plateau and Matheran forest trails.

🚗 Distance by Road (Drive Time)

Mumbai / Navi Mumbai: ~2 hours (~75-80 km)
Pune: ~2.5 to 3 hours (~120 km)
Nashik: ~3.5 to 4 hours (~160 km)

🚆 How to Reach Bhivpuri

Take any Karjat-bound local train on the Central Line (from CSMT, Dadar, Thane, or Kalyan) and get off directly at Bhivpuri Road Station. The trek starts right near the station!

🚶‍♂️ How to Exit: Matheran ➔ Neral ➔ Mumbai

Once you reach Matheran (Dasturi Naka), hop into a shared taxi down to Neral Junction (approx. ₹100 per seat).

Difficulty: Moderate (Steep, rocky, and slippery trail — wear good trek shoes & waterproof gear!)

Return Logistics (Neral to Mumbai CSMT Locals):
Afternoon: 02:11 PM, 03:42 PM, 04:16 PM, 05:13 PM, 05:49 PM
Evening: 06:12 PM, 06:44 PM, 07:56 PM, 08:54 PM, 09:26 PM

Toy Train operations are usually suspended on the way up during heavy monsoons, so trekking through the Matheran forest trails is the best way to reach the top.

Save this for your next weekend plan and stay tuned for Day 10! 🌿👇

2nd of “31 Monsoon Weekend Getaways” series takes you to one of the most beautiful yet lesser-known waterfalls near Mumbai – Dodhani Waterfall! 🌧️💦

Take a Mumbai local train to Panvel, then an auto or bus to Dodhani Village (Dhondhaneshwar Temple).
If long drive is your thing, then rev your automobile engines ......
From there, enjoy an easy 45-minute hike through lush forests, river crossings and beautiful monsoon scenery to reach this spectacular 100 ft cascading waterfall.

1 of the best parts? Even on a Sunday morning in peak monsoon, we had the waterfall almost entirely to ourselves.

The trail continues above the waterfall, where you’ll find an infinity pool during peak monsoon. Do not attempt this without an experienced local guide, as the terrain becomes challenging and slippery.

Adventure seekers can continue the trail further towards Matheran, which takes around 90 minutes of uphill trekking from the waterfall.

📍Approximate driving distances
🚗 Mumbai – 60 km (2–2.5 hrs)
🚗 Navi Mumbai – 35 km (1–1.5 hrs)
🚗 Thane – 55 km (2 hrs)
🚗 Pune – 125 km (3–3.5 hrs)
🚗 Lonavala – 70 km (2 hrs)
🚗 Nashik – 190 km (4.5–5 hrs)

Travel Tips
✔️ Take a local train to Panvel, then bus or auto to Dodhani Village.
✔️ If travelling in a private vehicle, parking is available at the village.
✔️ Carry drinking water and snacks. When I visited, there were no food stalls at the waterfall.
✔️ Wear trekking shoes with good grip.
✔️ There are no changing rooms or toilets near the waterfall.
✔️ Help keep this hidden gem clean—please don’t litter.

My Ratings ⭐
🏞️ Scenic Beauty: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
🥾 Trek Difficulty: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5) Easy
👨‍👩‍👧 Crowds: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)
🚆 Accessibility: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)
💰 Budget Friendly: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)

1/31 🌧️ 31 Weekend Getaway Ideas This Monsoon

Looking for a peaceful monsoon road trip from Mumbai, Pune or Nashik? Start your monsoon adventure at Khandi, one of Maharashtra’s most underrated destinations.

Instead of one crowded waterfall, Khandi offers an entire valley with 40+ seasonal waterfalls, scenic backwaters, misty mountain roads and breathtaking viewpoints. 1 of the option here is the privately managed Jagtap Waterfall, which offers parking, changing rooms and safe access for families.
KHANDI’S RATING
⭐ Crowded (less) ★★★☆☆
⭐ Scenic Drive ★★★★★
⭐ Family Friendly ★★★★★
⭐ Trek Difficulty ★☆☆☆☆

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Overall

A unique feature of Khandi is that local villagers maintain many of the waterfalls. For a nominal fee, they provide:
✔️ Parking
✔️ Changing rooms
✔️ Toilets
✔️ Tea & snacks
✔️ Delicious Maharashtrian home-cooked meals

Since public transport is very limited, most visitors arrive by private vehicle, making Khandi much less crowded than many other monsoon destinations.

Approximate Driving Time
🚗 Mumbai – 3 to 3.5 hours (130 km)
🚗 Pune – 2 hours (70 km)
🚗 Nashik – 4.5 hours (240 km)
🚗 Thane – 3 hours
🚗 Navi Mumbai – 2.5 hours
🚗 Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad) – 5 hours

Please help preserve this beautiful destination by avoiding littering and respecting the local community.
