At 50 I simplified everything.

I couldn’t support much noise anymore. Everything started stacking up.

Sleep off.
Night sweats.
Hot flashes.
Joints talking.
Energy different from day to day.
The sun pissed me off. I was already running hot.
Mood swings.
Itchy skin.
Hair loss.
That strange arthritis in my wrist and ankle.
Social anxiety.
Even my tolerance for chaos was lower.

What a truly honest season.

So I started simplifying. My training, my food, my schedule. I began paying attention to what actually supported me and letting go of what didn’t.

And here I am.

This is what works for me now. Weights. Movement snacks. Real life patterns. Protein (ha. it’s real). Gardening. Quality. Honesty. Less chasing, less performing, less trying to keep up. And what I attract now feels more authentic too.

Strength started showing up in small, everyday ways. Carrying felt easier. Working in the garden felt strong. Walking felt steady again. It wasn’t just my body that shifted. My mind did too. Calm. Clarity. Coming back to me.

Thank you Frede for our relationship. You have supported me, nurtured me, and listened throughout this season. It hasn’t ended, it just feels more supported now.

This is the foundation of my new program.
Daily life strength.
Less chaos, more calm in strength training.

Your body doesn’t move in straight lines.

This is a reverse lunge with hip rotation. One of the movements inside my Solin program.

Not perfect alignment or isolated muscles. This is how things actually connect.

The foot drives into the ground through the midfoot.
The core turns in.
The glutes lengthen through the hinge and rotation, then load to bring you back up, contracting, shortening, and turning on as you stand.

This is how you build strength that carries into real life.

Thirty plus years in professional movement. Elite athletics, then decades of coaching. Solin is built from all of it. A program designed to train your body to move the way it actually lives.

The challenge starts today.

This made me giggle, I slowed it down so you can see what I’m always talking about. Why we train in all planes of motion.

The aligned rep vs the distraction, the unexpected moments. Train all shapes, all angles, train the body in 3D motion. It’s about the slightly off version, the one where real life shows up and you’re moving through shapes you never planned. You can watch every angle change in real time when an Africanized bee crashes the party. This is what training for life actually looks like.

This is the juice I talk about with my clients all the time.

Watch what happens every time you get into your car. You reach for your seatbelt, then your dog jumps in the back. Your kid drops their toy. Your bag falls onto the floor. The groceries slide across the seat.

Without even thinking, you turn, reach and rotate.
Do you see it now?

Every movement has a reason. If we’re rotating in class, I’ll tell you exactly where you’ll use it in life because I want every exercise to make sense. When it does, your body starts recognizing those same patterns everywhere, and your strength becomes familiar in all the shapes and angles life throws at you.

We move our bodies in three dimensions all day long. Then we go to the gym and repeat the same fixed shapes over and over again.

That’s why I teach movement this way.

There’s something special about on se laisse porter… simply letting yourself be carried by the day.

We move. We cook together. We eat incredible food. We swim in the ocean. We watch the sunrise. We bliss out on meditation and deep body work. We have conversations that only happen when life slows down.

Every morning I wander through the garden with a cup of hazelnut milk coffee. Mostly checking on the tomatoes that are exploding right now, while other mornings I find myself completely distracted by something small.

This morning it was a tendril. I stood there staring at its perfect spiral and wondering how it knew what to do. It reaches out, finds something stable, and wraps itself around it, not because anyone taught it, but because it is simply following its nature.

It reminded me of something that happened three years ago with my dog Rue.

One morning she kept trying to nudge me into the lounge room and when I finally followed her, I found that she had gathered the sofa pillows into a circle, creating a safe place to have her babies. I moved the same circle of pillows into her bed, and a few hours later she gave birth to five puppies.

No one taught her how to do that, and I was absolutely mesmerized by it. By the knowing, by the care she took in creating that space, and maybe most of all by the fact that she wanted me to be part of it.

As I continued through the garden, I stopped at my Brussels sprouts. Everything grows from a single central stalk, and looking at them I couldn’t help but think of a spine, vertebrae gently stacked one upon another.

I spend so much of my life studying movement that it’s impossible not to notice these things. Spirals, spines, centers, patterns that seem to repeat themselves everywhere.

The tendril knows how to spiral. Rue knew how to build a nest. The seed knows how to become a plant.

There is something deeply humbling about watching all of it unfold and realizing how much wisdom exists beyond words. taken in Pasadena, California by @samrabon_

One month with my dad in LA and I’ve been feeling emotional about it in a way I didn’t expect.

My parents really gave me the gift of travel and curiosity from such a young age. There was always this feeling of the world being big and exciting and something to explore. Different cultures, architecture, food, conversations, people. I think that’s probably why my life unfolded the way it did and why I always felt pulled toward movement and new places. I’ve lived in Cape Town. Tokyo. Portugal. Paris. LA. Australia as a local not just a tourist. I’ve spent so much of my life living away from my family, always somewhere else in the world.

So having this full month together with my dad has felt really special, especially since losing my mom two years ago. Time feels different now. Softer maybe. More noticeable.

And honestly it hasn’t been the big things. It’s been all the tiny daily moments I know I’ll remember forever. My dad opening the front gate for me every morning when I leave for work. Him drinking his electrolytes through a steel straw like it’s a full ritual. Gardening together and watching his pruning skills somehow bring everything back to life. Farmers markets, galleries, little drives around LA, cardamom cold brews from Dune.

It’s been late night conversations with my boys when he couldn’t sleep. Watching him with the dogs, always carrying almonds in his pocket for their epic recalls. Cuddles at stop lights. Holding hands. Watching The Hounds play at the Whisky a Go Go. Home cooked dinners with music playing in the background.

Just life really. Ordinary life. But the kind you realize later was actually everything.

And now Winston finishes school in two weeks and his own adventure begins. That same pull toward discovering himself through the world and through experience, the same way I once did.

Life moving forward while also somehow circling back at the same time. All while moving through menopause and feeling time, change, grief, growth, love and aging in a way I never have before.

Life really is a gift. So many seasons. I love you dad by @samrabon_

Some clients come for the workout. They stay for something harder to name: the energy, the environment, the feeling that someone is really there with them. Julia from the German Fan Club put it into words so I didn’t have to. by @samrabon_

I remember being a little girl in Cape Town and my mom taking me into town to watch the carnival parades.

Years later, music would become a thread running through my life. A dancer. Working at Les Bains in Paris. Queen. Folies Pigalle. Falling in love with house music. Spending countless nights in clubs and on dance floors in Sydney, Tokyo, Paris, Ibiza, Portugal, Greece. Thailand, London, Morocco, Italy, Los Angeles, and beyond. Some of the best stories of my life started on a dance floor.

And because music has always been part of the story, I’ve included my May playlist for you to listen to while you read.

The full story is on Substack.

I’ve spent most of my life moving.
My body. Across countries. Through different careers, relationships, identities, and chapters of life.

Movement is my therapy. It has been the way I made sense of the world. Sometimes through dance. Sometimes through exercise. Sometimes through swimming or getting on a bike with my dogs when life felt too loud.

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about the conversations I want to have and the ones I don’t. I’m tired of the noise. Tired of everyone having something to sell. Tired of feeling like every thought has to become content, every hobby has to become a business, and every answer has to be certain.

So this feels like a place to talk about the things that have shaped me and the things I’m still figuring out. Movement. Motherhood. Perimenopause. Acupuncture. Nervous systems. Growing tomatoes. Starting over. Grief. Love. Letting go of relationships that no longer fit. Learning to trust myself. Becoming more sensitive to where trust exists and where it doesn’t.

The stories behind the stories. How I got here. From Cape Town. Sydney. Tokyo. Portugal. Paris. LA. How I continue to be here and what’s coming…..

I’ve lived a lot of life already, and trust me, there are some good stories.
