Flying Pig Marathon Recap Part 1: PR city 🐷🪽

I just ran a 12 minute PR and I genuinely didn’t see it coming.
To start ….. my training block didn’t go to plan. My longest run was 16 miles 🥴 and I didn’t get a full 16 weeks. I went into race day with zero expectations about time because honestly, time wasn’t the goal this race.

The goal was joy. That’s it! Running each mile with the same joy as mile one and staying present in the moment soaking it all in. And then …. Cincinnati showed up and made running with joy TOO easy. I literally didn’t play music in my headphones for 26.2 miles because I didn’t need it! The energy from the people lining those streets carried me in a way a playlist never could! The vibes were just UP the entire race. @runflyingpig I will be back!!!!

For a long time running has carried a lot of weight for me from pressure, to comparison, proving something to people, proving something to myself. Most of that started way before y’all met me when I was just a middle schooler finding her just trying to figure out who she was as a runner.

She deserved more grace than I gave her. And I think yesterday, I finally gave it to her 🤍

In every lifetime I wanna be a Black woman 🤎🖤

It’s been 8 days since my first ever marathon and my favorite part about the whole day was how many women of color I saw on that course. The little girls cheering on their moms and the husbands standing proud and in awe of the women they have the privilege to love.

This is how a legacy starts. My heart was filled with so much joy seeing those eyes light up when they saw me or another woman coming down the course. To the next generation of Black girls who run, the road is yours take up as much space as you need 🫶🏾✨

She was mean for this workout, but she believes in me so much and I’ll forever be grateful for that! Coach bestie is on the vlog today and I need to brag on her for a hot second. So I met @_rileysdavis one night at a run club and was obsessed with her because she had the CUTEST ribbons in her hair, it was so XC kid coded … obviously we hit it off.

The Lord ate down bringing her into my life because my relationship with running was in full repair when we met and she’s been helping me heal every single mile. Her wisdom, encouragement, and willingness to sit with me in my difficult runs and life moments … I’m so grateful! It’s funny I’m prepping for my 3rd marathon because she’d been trying to convince me to do one since 2021 and I didn’t run my first until 2024 haha. Love you so much Coach bestie, keep being mean to me 🫶🏾

Wow, what a chaotic training week? Tummy issues, achilles scares, and “hills” galore.

Ran into a friend at a coffee shop today and she made a simple statement that convicted the life outta me. “Sam I really enjoy when you post about what you’re learning in your word, it’s really good to see.”

I haven’t posted much about my faith in a minute. This summer my spiritual routine was all the way thrown off. It was giving more performative than it was personal. And instead of bringing that to God, I left my mindset decide if I was “worthy enough” to show up with my mess. My eyes were everywhere- comparison in my training, comparison in my faith. To top it off I was being REAL stubborn too. Trying to force a lot of things that the Lord told me to close.

So I stepped back. On here in general and tried to figure out what to do with this account, my running & my faith. I felt sucky as a runner and sucky as someone who claimed to be a woman of faith. No worries though she’s back on track. Spending more time in faith-filled community, running without my headphones, unfollowing the accounts that stole my joy … just creating space for Him instead of shutting Him out like I have been.
