Jody & I go wayyyyy back. We’ve slung drinks together, we’ve side swooped hair together, crashed stages together, took selfies in dark corners of venues at festivals together… but now we’re finally going to do a little tour together! I don’t know how we haven’t done it already, but we’re doing it NOW. Better late than never they say.

Come see us in one of these places. Joining us are also some incredible artists: @peach.pyramid in Victoria @wheeliesmotorcycles & @nancypittet in Nanaimo at @vaultcafe, and it will be just Jody & I vibing out at @theheatley696 in Vancouver. Burned CDs and overflowing shelves. 💿

Thanks to Alex Hudson and @exclaimdotca for including two of our artists in Show & Tell on the CD resurgence.

@michaelaslinger shares the mix her mom burned her for the drive to college, the same disc she sings about on “Girl in the Picture Frame” from her new LP Green and Trying.

@samanthasavagesmith opens up her collection, from Fiona Apple’s Tidal to a stack of movie soundtracks, all sharing shelf space with Chris Dadge’s 8,000-plus disc library.

Read the full feature at the link in our stories.

Little Place has been out for two weeks now. I found my stash of instants I took from the sessions. Pretty cute. Musicians are cute. Take a listen to the tunes for the first time or again and think of these cuties while you do.

@chris.dadge: co-producer & engineer, drums, percussion, bass, synth, and too many other things to mention / bored and quiet creator-er
@natetootshisownhorn: guitar, bass, sax, flute / smiles for miles-er
@brock__geiger: bass, guitar, synth/paint thrower-er
@jjmayo_: pedal steel/dream weaver-er
@mennett.bitchell: BG vox/positive viber-er by @samsavsmith

I managed to take one photo this weekend and it was just moments before I ate the spiciest soup of my life that my eye balls were sweating and tongue was so numb still water tasted like carbonated water. Big thanks to my dudes @natetootshisownhorn, @brock__geiger and @chris.dadge for suggesting psychedelic eating experiences and ripping the new tunes with me.

We got another one coming in Lethbridge on October 10th w/ @baileykate03 at @owlacousticlounge! by @samsavsmith

The Little Place video is very ready for you to watch on YouTube now.

The concept arrived during a phone conversation I had with Ava last August, and she literally started shooting from that summer to this spring. The piece is truly a labour of love and a testament to the practice of patience, letting the seasons pass to find the outcome. Time is precious, but I hope this video compels you to sit with some slowness.

I’d like to give a very special thanks to the wonderful humans who trusted us and our concept. Thank you for your vulnerability, bravery, and letting us be so close to capture all your beauty.

Little Place Video Credits:
Directed/ Produced by Samantha Savage Smith
DOP/Edit Ava Wild
Lighting Assistant Aiden James

Talent: Rebecca Reid, Marvin Duque, Tea Fannie, Bennett Mitchell, Chris Tait.

Shot at Idle Eyes Collective, Calgary AB
Lighting/Equipment Rental MPR Inc.

The creation of this video was graciously funded by The Alberta Foundation for the Arts. by @samsavsmith

Tomorrow I’ll be releasing the 4th and final video of a series of black and white concepts I did for songs, “My Friends”, “Eyes Wide Shut”, “Pupil” and now for the title track “Little Place”. Here are some gorgeous stills shot by @yourwildfriend

I realized from my last record, I truly love making videos. Every single step gets my adrenaline going, and I find it’s very much like making a song. For this album, I decided I wanted to be very thoughtful in my approach and have the videos be a true extension of the music. I found myself pulling together different creative teams for each one but with one single rule – it must be in black and white. It was thrilling to work with so many different minds, and to see how each individual collaboration took shape after I pitched each of them a loose concept and the wheels quickly began turning. I’m so proud of this record, and I’m also very proud of this visual body of work to go along with it.

None of this was really about making “content” to feed the hyper marketing machine of social media. It just came down to the act of expression and extending my creative interests. It’s more of an uphill battle than ever in the music industry, and it takes great effort to not be consumed by stats. Art in whatever its form is often treated as a commodity these days, which is wild with how much humanity has to go into it for it to even exist. But as a maker of the things, I know how much love and tireless care goes into all of it. Even if it connects to just one single other human, we’ve done our job.

I’m truly humbled and honoured to have worked alongside all these different creative individuals for this album. I’m truly inspired. The people in our artistic community is what fuels us to keep creating, and they help quiet the noise. Keep them close, and continue lifting one another up. 🤍 by @samsavsmith

This Thursday on ‘What’s Your Niche?’ on CJSW 90.9fm, I am thrilled to be joined by SAMANTHA SAVAGE SMITH to discuss her latest amazing album Little Place, which is out now!

Starting right at 7am and going until practically 9:30am, me and Sam will go track-by-track on Little Place, discussing the origins of each song, shouting out all of the stellar players (Dadge! Nate! Brock! JJ Mayo! Bennett!) and really leaving no stone unturned for one of the most exciting releases of 2026. We also hype up this Friday’s release show at The Palomino, with Cassia Hardy and Ava Wild, with Sam teasing some really wonderful things to purchase at that album release show! And in case that wasn’t enough? Sam tells me WHAT HER NICHE IS!

I have been wanting Samantha Savage Smith to guest on What’s Your Niche since my show began in 2022 (where one of my most played releases in those early months was her last album, 2022’s Fake Nice!), so this was a long time coming, and we had so much fun talking all things Little Place and MORE! I will also be playing the album in its entirety throughout the morning, so in case you haven’t listened to it yet, this will be the ultimate way to experience Little Place, as you get Sam’s director’s commentary track of sorts for each song as we play them!

Tune in to CJSW 90.9fm from 7-10am this Thursday or stream on-demand on the CJSW website. taken in CJSW-FM by @samsavsmith
