EUROPEAN CHAMPION 🤯

What an unreal experience to win the European Championships in front of my home crowd, in a new National Record (1:44.88). I still can’t quite believe what’s happened. This one was special 🧡

National Record 1500m indoor - 3:32.68 🤯
5th fastest European of all time and 15th fastest of all time worldwide❗️

Only 3 days after losing my old NR, I managed to take it back (sorry Stefan). Absolutely smashed my PB and finished 2nd at @copernicus_cup.

Had a great week in Lievin 🇫🇷 and Torun 🇵🇱 with the team! Really looking forward to come back to Torun in 4 weeks for @wickujawypomorze26

Decided to end the season a little earlier than planned ❌

After the disappointment at the European Championships, I was looking forward to redeeming myself with a couple of good races to finish the season. Birmingham came a little too early, but over the past few weeks my training had started to progress back towards what felt like my old level again.

Unfortunately, last weekend’s race in Brescia was one of my worst races in a very long time. More importantly, it felt like a sign that my body and mind had had enough. So I’ve decided to call it a season.

Looking back, this season has been a lot. Time for some rest 🫡

European Championships 2026 ❤️‍🩹

Five and a half weeks ago, making it to the start line in Birmingham seemed almost impossible. So although missing the final hurts, being right in the mix for a spot in that final is something I’m genuinely proud of. We did everything to get me here in the best shape possible. Training by training, things started to come back. In the end, we simply ran out of time. I gave everything I had out there, but it wasn’t enough this time.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped me get back: my coach, medical team, physio, psychologist, family and everyone else who supported me through these past weeks.

This one didn’t end the way I wanted it to, but I’m leaving Birmingham hungry and with another valuable experience to take into the future. The season isn’t over yet 😤

Big congrats to @stefan_nillessen on the amazing run. You really did that 🥇

Not exactly the preparation I had in mind.

A knee injury has kept me off running more than I’d like over the past four weeks, which unfortunately means I’ll miss the Dutch National Championships this weekend. 😢

The road to Europeans hasn’t been ideal, but the mindset hasn’t changed.
