How to look cool:

Step 1: Go to Oregon
Step 2: Wear a photographer vest
Step 3: Point at stuff

If, for some reason, you found yourself in need of an entirely humbling experience, you could do worse than to chase golden retrievers up a 500 ft sand dune. taken in Bruneau Sand Dunes State Park by @samwbrockway

When I scan a roll of film or transfer digital files to my computer and there’s even a single photo of Bridget that looks like herself and is reasonably in focus, I feel an overwhelming sense of relief and gratitude.

I’m already consumed by the panic of how quickly time is passing. Trying to freeze these moments while also living in them and appreciating them feels like trying to hold water in my hands as it slips easily through my fingers.

I can’t clearly remember how I felt about the awful weather that morning at Cannon Beach. But I can immediately return to the overwhelming rush of mixed emotions I felt seeing the scans for the first time while looking at an already unrecognizable Bridget.

You can figure out how the photo credit should work on these…

So, this was taken by me on my camera/glass with Lou’s film he bought/payed for development on. But I did also scan and edit it. I think that means it’s decidedly a joint effort.

Showing @magicandlouis around our little slice of Idaho made me very happy. We banged around in my old Chevy truck, which is precisely what we were doing when we were teenagers—though maybe at lower decibels on the stereo this time around.

One of those places that really encourages endless exploration. Also, the nicest visitor center rangers I’ve ever talked to—which is really saying something.

One too many stops. Definitely one too many stops on this trip. But this baby was gonna have to learn how to hike at night sooner or later.

Also, this was from November, when it was almost completely dark by 5:00 p.m. I don’t need to justify it, we’ll go hiking on an alien moonscape wherever we want. taken in John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, Painted Hills Unit by @samwbrockway

Now a very good big brother @bakerthemuffin.

Meet our sweet girl, Lily, on the second slide. She just hit 7 months, and while I will do my darndest to post puppy photos, this gal never really stops moving! Lily is from Poppy’s (of moose dog fame) lineage, and is a truly special addition to our family.

I went out this morning with the stated goal of taking early morning landscapes, but found myself peeling off to photograph white pelicans and dilapidated buildings instead 🤷‍♂️.

The crazy thing about being a photographer parent not dependent on photography as a source of income is that I’m probably taking as many photos as I ever have, but the last thing I want to do after work is to silo myself away to sit at the computer to edit so I don’t really have any shareable photos from the last 2 years. I did a quick edit of this one for Birdie’s daycare and figured it was as good as any to get a post up after a long break.

It’s exciting for me to think about the relationship she will have with these mountains that have become so important to us—she might even have her shoes on the right feet next time. taken in Sawtooth National Forest by @samwbrockway
