I consider Vienna my city. Typically, I avoid the tourist traps, walk the side alleys, eat with the locals. This time we made (a few) exceptions. Schönbrunn park is mostly empty in the morning; runners and moms with strollers don’t make a crowd, tourists are trapped inside of the palace anyway. Wiener schnitzel at Figlmüller is good (some other dishes even better), especially if you get inside as a local. Hofburg has so many shortcuts and courtyards that it’s mostly easy to avoid the masses. And Lipizzaner horses are much nicer close up or even in their natural surroundings (see them in Lipica, Slovenia). But still, I never have enough of this city, so much life and beauty.

Exploring Salzkammergut. Staying in Salzburg, but actually swimming with the locals and visiting hidden villages. A bit of city vacation and relaxing in the nature at the same time.

Few days enjoying the Mediterranean vibes, but not so much on the beach. Instead we were wandering through the labyrinth of streets of this medieval town. Tightly packed Venetian houses, narrow alleys, steep steps and amazing views once you find your way down to the sea or up to the city walls. Especially for the sunset.

Time in the mountains - Julian Alps. To be fair, there was more driving then hiking. But… it’s still nice to see the bigger area and walk through pockets of nature wonders. From Zelenci wetlands and river Sava through Kranjska Gora to Lake Jasna. Headed up to Vrsic Pass to mingle with sheep and stretch the legs. Followed the river Soca down through the Trenta valley. Lots of curves and bridges, accompanied by magnificent views and dips in the freezing cold water.

The iconic sight of the Netherlands. Windmills.
These 19 windmills were used to drain the area in the 18th century. They are still standing in their original location and are a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. A couple of them were turned into museums and a few look like they are used as a weekend getaway.

One of my favourite things about Netherlands? The details. The brick buildings with pops of colour everywhere. Red, yellow, blue. Doors and windows, flowers and decorations. Wherever you turn, there’s something to admire.

Summer in the Netherlands is best enjoyed outdoors. Yes, even in the heatwave, since AC is quite rare in those old buildings. Spending time near canals or in the shade of the many parks sounds like a much better idea.

Touristy side of Brussels. There was not much time to discover the hidden spots. I tried though. Everyone knows about Manneken Pis, the boy occasionally dressed in a costume, peeing in public, right? But did you know about the peeing little girl, Jeanneke Pis? Or a dog - Het Zinneke? And everyone knows about chocolate, waffles and frites. But did you know there are comic murals and statues all around the city and so much of the different street art as well?
