POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Hi, my name is Sandrine, I’m 30 years old and I live in Stockholm. I’m so happy to see new faces here and excited to share stories that impact me and that might impact you too!

I’d like to start by telling you what brought me here.

I’ve always been interested in stories and books. But during my studies in Sociology and Human Rights at Uni, when I had to read at least 4 thick books per course, it was hard to find the motivation and time to read for pleasure.
About 3 years ago, I made a New Year’s resolution to read more and set the goal of finishing seven books. Reading quickly became my favorite hobby!

Fast forward to today: I read every day, and it brings me so much joy. My favorite genres are contemporary fiction, literary fiction, historical fiction, sci-fi, and romance. Reading has become both an escape from reality and a way for me to explore feelings that I can’t always put into words.

Even though reading is an isolated activity, following Bookstagrammers and Booktubers has helped me discover more books and authors. That’s what inspired me to create my own account- a space where I hope can inspire you to explore books and authors beyond the bestseller lists.

I’ll probably discover new genres along the way too, and I’m really looking forward to sharing this journey with you all.

What’s your name and what is your favorite genre?🤗 by @sandrinesbookcorner

Found Time by Caroline Goldstein📚
A second-chance romance that starts off in the 90s, and if you’re like me and enjoy rom-coms set in the 90s, then you will enjoy the first part of this book!

Lili and Reed meet at a concert on a hot summer day in New York in 1993. And this is what the streets call love at first sight- because their chemistry is instant. They are forced to choose between their personal goals, which eventually drives their relationship to an end.
Cut to 30 years later, their paths cross again, and they are given a second chance to work out what went wrong. The difference is that this time, they both carry a lot of baggage.

I loved the first part of this book. I loved the idea of a hot summer romance in New York! I also loved how honest this story felt. There wasn’t a lot of fluff, and it was refreshing to read about a couple in their 50s. It was a friendly reminder that it’s never too late to find your person.

Do you enjoy reading second chance romance books?

Meet my recent 5⭐️ read and probably my favorite read of the year!

This story starts off in the early 1900s and continues up until the year 1989. The time span allowed me to learn about Japan’s occupation of Korea, the Korean War that led to the country’s split, and the post-war political climate in the region.

These events are the backdrop of a story of a young girl named Sunja who falls in love with a wealthy man named Hansu in Korea and quickly discovers that she is pregnant. When she tells him this, he tells her that he is married but promises to take care of her as his mistress and the baby. Later on, Sunja marries a Christian minister named Isak and they begin their journey to Japan. As the story unfolds, we follow Sunja and her family navigating life as immigrants in Japan.

Subjects such as religion, discrimination, ambition, sacrifice, and most of all love in all forms are very nuanced in this story.

Min Jin Lee’s way of storytelling in this book is sharp and straight to the point. Yet nothing felt rushed. Every character’s story is nuanced, which allowed me to see good in literally everyone- I even felt empathy for Hansu.

Ultimately, this story is a perfect description of what it means to be an immigrant and how no matter how much these characters adapt to their new home, Japan, they are forced to always remember that they don’t belong. And this is what made this story emotional- you follow each character doing their absolute best to adapt and survive the harsh climate they are met with in Japan, with the hope that one day- one day- it will all make sense. Hope is their only fuel, and unfortunately for some of them, hope becomes a naive choice that they can’t afford anymore.

I feel like this is a book I will carry with me forever.
I know a lot of you have read this book, so I’d love to hear your thoughts.

What was your biggest takeaway?
If you haven’t read this book yet, don’t walk, RUUUN!

This one is for the sad-girl-lit fic girlies out there📚

The main character, Fuyuko, is in her mid-thirties and works as a proofreader. As someone who loves books set in the literary world, this was an instant sell for me!

We follow Fuyuko’s daily life and thoughts, and it quickly becomes clear how isolated she truly is, something she doesn’t seem to mind, until she takes a leave from work and decides to try becoming a more social version of herself. At its core, this is a story about finding yourself later in life, and how the world around you reacts when you do.

What I loved most was getting inside Fuyuko’s head and seeing how even the women she assumed had everything figured out are secretly struggling in their own ways. Mieko Kawakami’s writing is just stunning, and I’m definitely thinking about picking up Breasts and Eggs next.

Looking for a vacation read? You should give this one a go📚🍷

Lush is a story about four sommeliers who receive an invitation to a wine-tasting weekend at a beautiful villa in the south of France. Who doesn’t love the idea of living on a beautiful vineyard in the south of France? As a wine lover, it sounds like the perfect weekend getaway. This book has good balance between beautiful writing and a chaotic storyline that will keep you entertained.

I like the way this book challenges the idea of wine as this exclusive drink and how alcohol consumption is often removed from conversations about it. It’s seen as a superior drink that represents knowledge, elegance and is just “a hobby”.

The author explores what’s often not discussed enough. That people who enjoy wine, at its core, simply enjoy drinking. Alcoholism in the wine industry is discussed throughout the book, and how working as a sommelier is probably the only job where drinking- and even getting drunk every day- is accepted as part of the lifestyle.

That being said, this book will leave you feeling hungover from reading about this group drinking 24/7. This is a story about a messy grown-up vacation filled with emotions, drama, and personal crises.

I love me some Irish literature for the way Irish authors always manage to capture raw emotions and all the mundane things that make life, life.

Acts of Desperation follows a young woman in her early twenties who is desperate to find love- someone she can call her own and belong to. According to the protagonist, life without attention from men is simply not worth living. She eventually falls in love and enters a relationship that is endlessly consuming. But what’s most chocking about this relationship is its ending. I did not see that ending coming at all!

This story had all my attention in the beginning, but by the time I got to the middle of the book, I was bored. It felt too repetitive, and I was frustrated by the protagonist’s lack of boundaries. But now, reflecting back on it, I understand that this was the author’s way of portraying the reality of a toxic relationship.

I read this book years ago, and I found myself thinking about it ever since. This spring, I felt the urge to revisit the story.

The book follows a married couple in Nigeria struggling with infertility. We first meet Yejide, who longs for a child and goes to great lengths to make that dream come true. The pressure from her husband’s family and the expectations of the society she lives in only amplify that desire. She finds herself caught between being a modern, independent woman and fulfilling the role of the “perfect wife.”

Then we have Akin, who at his core is a loving husband. But family pressure to continue the family lineage leads him to make choices that deeply affect their marriage, including keeping a secret that slowly weakens the trust between them.

Meanwhile, there is ongoing protest in Nigeria that leads to a political crisis in the country. I found it fascinating how the author connects the state of the country to the couple’s personal struggles. Not only is their relationship falling apart, but the world around them is also on flames too.

This is a story about how societal expectations shape both women and men. The characters’ choices felt believable given the pressures they faced, and the way the story unfolds keeps you hooked until the very end. Just when you think there are no more twists left, another one appears.

Just like the title implies, this is a story that stays with you!
