This gorgeous old tool box belonged to my Father in Law. He was born in Belfast and worked in the same boat yards where they built the Titanic ⚓️

Despite living in Australia most of his life his accent was so thick I always struggled to understand what he was saying. When we first met I’d just nod and hope it was the appropriate response 😅

I love that we have this special piece full of memories and now also full of shells and crabs 🦀 by @sandside17

I had such a strong vision for this powder room. Bold, fun and green of course!

It all started with the gorgeous wallpaper and the varied shades of green. Followed by the stunning green concrete basin.

Old school ⚓️

Surf culture has always been a big part of our family

From my Mother In Law’s home made surfboard to the Manta board hubby used to ride

The Qantas poster came from a little vintage shop in the Rocks Sydney many moons ago and was one of the first items we purchased for Sand Side. I vaguely recall thrifting this gold frame which is a bit too big and a bit too brassy for my liking but over the years it’s grown on me and now I can’t imagine it with any other frame!

The 11 Armed Seastar

Until recently I had never seen or heard of these beauties. The other night while out on my beach walk I stumbled across one. Then the next day while out walking I saw this little information plaque on a local pier

Apparently they shed limbs to avoid predators. Sometimes they grow back and sometimes not. Mine has a couple of arms detached which I picked up but it still appears to be missing one arm so I think he was a 10 Arm Seastar!!

After a few clear days of sunshine it was finally time to grout the first part of our oyster shell wall

With 17 dozen shells to work with I decided the easiest way to cover the wall was to create two panels (due to the weight and the fact we ran out of oyster shells!!)

The panels will eventually be hung in our shed and out of direct sunlight so I won’t have to worry about fading or discolouration. Probably just a bit if dust 😉

I’m happy with how it turned out. The grooves from the adhesive spreader remind me of the ripples in the sea. Initially I had thought of doing a more elaborate design but decided to go with a more organic look

Now the tricky part getting it up on the wall and eating another 17 dozen oysters to get the rest of the wall covered - gave it a good nudge the other day with the first dozen down 😅

I recently spent a few hours sorting my bounty of shells. I hadn’t realised what a diverse range of treasure I had collected

I inherited this gorgeous vintage silver plated tray with stunning scalloped detail from my Great Aunt

When I received it it was a beautiful aged silver colour. For the last couple of years it’s been outside holding an assortment of shells. In that time it has acquired a beautiful green patina 💚

This morning I decided it was time for a little shell sorting and was quite surprised and impressed that I had gathered quite the collection of eclectic scallop shells (all collected from beaches along the Mornington Peninsula)

I think they deserve a little moment of their own ✨ Don’t you 🧜‍♀️
