Back in the day we were his people.

Jimmy (my dad) grew up treated in a way so poorly they could write books about it. It was a sad story. Unfortunately he let those memories blur the person and father he could have been. He never could shake loose of his past and he carried it with him.

The last half of his life was almost as bad as the beginning. He battled homelessness and addiction. He surrounded himself with other people who were broken like him.

I hadn’t seen him in 13.5 years until they called me this week to say he was dying. He passed away yesterday, but I’m not sad about that. I think he’ll move on to a better place than this world was for him. I am sad when I look at a small glimpse of the good times we had together.

He wasn’t all bad. In fact if you knew him when he was still with me and my mom then you knew he was fun, and sweet, and most of all he was funny. I’ll try to remember him that way. by @sanduskyparris

6 years ago Jesse Kitt Photography captured these amazing photographs ❤️ ❤️❤️❤️ by @sanduskyparris

Today I had the honor of being promoted to a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt by Professor Charles Dos Anjos. Charles has stuck by my side and continued to give me a place to come and train here in Sarasota over the past several years always welcoming me with open arms and often making me the butt of his latest joke 🤣. This may be why we get along so well together and I consider him my friend.

This journey has not been an easy one and has come with plenty of physical injury (mostly due to my ego) and it has required me to be away from my family which is most often the hardest part for me. So for that I would like to thank my wife Carson, not only making space for me to be able to attend practice, but for encouraging me on the days I was not feeling it.

I will be excited to be back to @avl_northside_bjj_ where folks will try to tear my limbs off and Patrick Dodd will have to tear them off of me! by @sanduskyparris

I’m not gonna post any devastating pictures right now. There are plenty of those to look at. It got much worse here than these photos let on, but even though we lost some stuff we are smiling and making the best of it. We are safe and we have some supplies for now, and if you know, Carson and me, then you know we are survivalists by nature. I have driven to the cabin where I still have Starlink Internet to be able to let the world know that we are OK, but at this point in time, we have no cell reception, even though we randomly receive a text message or call here or there. Don’t worry about us for now, just pray for our community. If anyone that I work with at the gas company or anyone from my crew reads this message, I’m going to try to get some of my equipment out this week so that we can do what we need to do to help. You can try commenting here, but I’m not sure when I will be able to see it. Headed back to the farm now and will continue to try to find ways to communicate with folks I know here that need help. Over and out ❤️🙏🏼 by @sanduskyparris
