Legendary South African kwaito pioneer @sandybworld has joined forces with versatile Belgian producer @sofa_elsewhere to create a powerful, politically charged album: ⏩ FORWARD IN REVERSE (PT 1) ⏪. Their collaboration started in the shadow of ongoing genocide and atrocities in various parts of the world, with a shared conviction: music is political. Together they’ve created tracks that resonate with defiance, hope and a demand for change.

Pre-orders are open for the next release on Afrosynth Records (AFS058), due out in Q2 2026. Listen now via the Rush Hour website at the 🔗 in bio.

I’m so sad to hear about Freddie Jackson's passing today. He was such a gentle icon with his unique voice, and we grew up listening to his great music. I feel so lucky and blessed to have sung with him on stage and the only one in Africa, something I never thought would ever happen. He leaves us with timeless R&B hits that will be enjoyed by every generation to come. RIP.

Here I'm sitting in between the greatest SA musicians I was born already on our radios. The pioneers of SA disco and Bubblegum music. Few days ago we lost the legendary Babsy Mlangeni (Left) at 83 yrs old. He is reuniting in heaven with his friend, one of the most talented vocalists SA ever had the late Adv. Steve Kekana. Both were the most recognised artists living with blindness in SA. They managed to keep generations entertained. They were easy to hang out with and full of fun.

SANDY B – TRAVEL THE WORLD”

Lunga Baainar Remix

Sandy B returns with a fresh Deep House interpretation of “Travel The World,” remixed by DJ Lunga Baainar — a release made for DJs, radio and listeners around the globe.

Originally recorded in 2014 , “Travel The World” has always represented another important side of Sandy B as an artist. While widely recognised for his pioneering Kwaito sound and international work, Sandy B has also maintained a deep connection with Deep House, both as a singer and performer.

The original version of Travel The World did not receive the marketing attention it deserved at the time. Sandy B was heavily focused on taking his Kwaito sound to audiences around the world, touring internationally and building his reputation as a South African Kwaito artist on the global stage.

Over the years, however, DJs continued to ask for “Travel The World” to receive greater commercial exposure.

That demand eventually met the right moment when DJ Lunga Baainar approached Sandy B with the idea of creating a new remix — giving the song a fresh beginning while respecting the spirit and... more

Here is my story about this used to be one of the biggest music retail in SA, Musica. I used to release music independently in the 90s from since I released the very first Kwaito record in my province KZN.

I had no distribution and it was hard if you are based in my province. Whenever I wanted my music to be in stores I'd be told to find a distributor already with a catalog, most were in Jozi. I then made a plan, I'd go to Musica stores with some of my Cds, leave a couple on their shelves without anyone watching, I'd then make a call as a customer to find out if the store had my music? They'd look on the system and don't find it, but then check physically and found it on the shelf lol. They'd then think maybe they missed it by mistake and enter it on the shop system and put a price on it.

Then I send people to go and buy it. Although I wouldn't make money from that, I just wanted Sandy B name to be on their systems so that if they make stock orders to their head office, they'd put my name too. Haha.

Today Sandy B music get released on vinyls worldwide and my records are properly distributed to stores globally.

The interesting part is that, it is the very same old music that got rediscovered by the global market and git reissued for world stored before other vinyl releases that followed in recent years.

I must make a movie yoh haha.

Injustices and discrimination of the past, and experiencing all sorts of oppression based on my skin color, taught me to love and teach people to love others no matter who they are and how they look, because discrimination and oppression are not good at all.

When people fight against one another and get separated by politics, I feel like we are not doing much to be heard about our efforts to get people to see each other as humans rather than enemies. Don't we all want a better world than what is happening all around? If we do, let's use what we have to make things better and give a better hope to the growing generation. by @sandybworld

It makes me feel sad and weak to see humans being forced to be separated based on race and nationality right in front of our eyes. There are tensions all around and families and friends are living in fear of being separated for a long time or forever.

Growing up in an era where the politics of my own country forced many of us out of our homes and disconnected many of us from our childhood friends, some of whom we never got to see again, we had to raise ourselves when families totally broke apart. These are things you never wish on other people. This is why we try to be kind and give genuine love to strangers, no matter where they are from and how they look. We want people to feel welcomed and create communities where people feel loved and welcomed around us.
It is what we all need to take the world in the right direction. I'm sad to always see people showing hostility to others just because they don't look like them or are of a certain nationality. It is sad that people are being drawn to that. We may differ and we may have different mindsets and cultures, and we are not forced to be with people we are not comfortable with. We have the right to protect our spaces and be with people we prefer to be around, but when it's done in an inhumane way that invites hate, anger, and causes conflicts which may lead to humanitarian crisis also that may in turn reflect badly on everyone else who is not like you, then I have a problem with that. It is sad that as artists, we are being judged based on who they interact with and badmouthed and demonized for being against such while some try to attract jobs by being part of such separation. We are caught in the middle. We have to be strong and stick with our own truth and what we are about. There is more love out there than hate. Love will always win.j by @sandybworld
