Otherworldly stills from the beautiful Sandy Uhrich directed video for “A Lover’s Theory Of Value” by Ruth Mascelli & Mary Hanson Scott, additional footage by Tom Camilleri, music bed is the recently dropped FREAKS MIX by Freak Heat Waves.

The first time I saw this I thought it seemed like the action was taking place in one of the alternate dimensions from Twin Peaks, but I couldn’t decide if it was the white lodge or black lodge, and then I figured it must be somewhere else, the blue lodge maybe? Where esoteric lounge music plays all night long. Even the tour Ruth & Mary are embarking on next week seems a bit unreal, all spiral mirrors and finding god’s auto body in the mist. You expect me to believe those are actual venues?? I’m not buying it. Cop the LP in all good record shops 7/11 or go listen to it on the astral plane. by @sandyscope

Here are a few of my favorite stills from the new video for “A Lover’s Theory of Value” by Ruth Mascelli & Mary Hanson Scott.

Ruth and I began discussing this collaboration last fall, when I was spontaneously hired to drive Ruth’s other band, Special Interest, on a West Coast run.

Though our concept was still in its infancy, Ruth and his boyfriend Tommy began shooting b-roll footage throughout the winter and spring.

This past April, Ruth and Tommy had flown in to Minneapolis to put the finishing touches on his collaborative record with Mary During their 4 day stay, we rented a Green Screen studio and shot the second half of the video. Ruth came with a ton of visions for shots, b-roll he and Tommy had made, and found material.

Over the next few months, I whittled away a loose visual narrative from the expanse of footage and inspiration we had, allowing the idea to reveal itself to me through the edit.

The video moves in three acts; a love spell shown in reverse, we witness seduction in a sleazy hotel room, the journey that lead there, and hypnosis of blossoming lust, all with Ruth and Mary as sensual chorus.

There are nods to a lot of our favorite artists throughout, and I am so pleased with the results of this collaboration. Thanks so much to Ruth & Mary for the trust with helping build out the aesthetic realm this record exists in. Thanks to Tommy for your vision and assistance with all aspects of this production. I loved this team.

Esoteric Lounge Music Now is being released on November 7th by Disciples! You can watch the whole video at the link in my bio.

ESOTERIC LOUNGE MUSIC NOW!

After the Haunted Hearts and Self Control singles, we’re very happy to announce a full length collaborative LP between Ruth Mascelli & Mary Hanson Scott.

Third single, A Lover’s Theory Of Value, is out now, with a great and bizarre video by Sandy Uhrich, well worth a watch.

The Esoteric Lounge Music Now album hits record racks worldwide on 7 November.

If you’re new to the wild world of Ruth Mascelli, then dive into the paranoid torch songs of previous album Non-Stop Healing Frequency, or the steamy techno immersions of debut solo set A Night At The Baths. Also check out Mary’s work, both solo and with Green Ribbon!

Do you live on the Eastern side of North America? Then go catch Ruth & Mary play together in November:

11/4 New York, NY - Parkside Lounge
11/5 Montreal, QB - Casa Del Popolo
11/6 Holyoke, MA - The Mist
11/7 Kingston, NY - Spiral Mirror
11/8 Philadelphia, PA - God’s Automatic Body

As with the recently announced Joseph Kamaru record, much more to come on this record in the coming weeks. Keep it locked to Disciples.
