being a horsegirl taught me some of the most important lessons i’ve been carrying with me ever since i set my foot in the stable at 11

even though i was scared (and had my first lesson as the storm struck) the curiosity won and so i spent the next 8 years in the saddle

and since we’re beginning the year of the fire horse, looking for the symbolism i personally treat it as a reminder to look back at my roots, what makes me me, what horses really taught me

to be courageous even if your legs are trembling, as the monster your mind tricks you to see might just be an old, red armchair left in the woods, and even though it could spook you for a moment, don’t let it stop you, keep moving forward,

to be patient with whatever you’re aiming to achieve, that there will be good and bad days, no matter what - get your fuel in, put in the hours, keep moving forward

to care, love and trust
to find peace in the quiet tasks
to be the most you you are
to take action and move forward (even if sometimes if feels like you’re moving backwards)
and in my case - get back in the saddle
not only metaphorically speaking

and most importantly: you can always try again

(p.s. am missing picaro a little extra today, always appreciating the joy and hard work of owing a horse as a teenager, all the falls, even the most dramatic ones as i never gave up and always stood back up, to everyone who got to meet my special little baby - he’s all well and healthy, living in illinois)
