If you’ve ever wondered what nearly fifty years of people looking out for each other looks like, it looks a little like this.The San Juan Heritage Foundation now sits on the front of every training top, carrying forward the people who wore this crest before today’s players ever arrived. It gives alumni and families a way to help make the game possible for the next kid, because talent can be everywhere while access, unfortunately, is not. The cost of playing should never be the thing that decides whether a young player gets to belong here, and this foundation exists to help make sure it isn’t.A small mark on the shirt. At this age, life is still made mostly of firsts: the first season at this level, the first national stage, the first time the game asks them to become a little older than they were the day before. Our 2013’s met each of those moments with the openness of children and the composure of players far beyond their years. In their very first season at the highest level, our babies became one of the final eight teams left standing in the country.The full scope of this accomplishment may not reach them until they are home again and enough time has passed to see it clearly, but we all know that their parents could already see it from the sideline in real time. Parents are asked to hold two versions of a child at once: the girl who still needs reminders to pack her water, find the other cleat, and hurry out the door, and then the fearless player walking into moments large enough to overwhelm grown adults without giving an inch. But for one remarkable season, the little girls they brought to the field stood among the very best in the country.And maybe that is the sweetest part of all. There is a certain freedom in being young enough to meet something enormous before anyone has taught you to fear it. They accomplished something enormous while nearly all of life still waits ahead of them. There will undoubtedly be more seasons, more firsts, more joy, more heartbreak, and like the 2009’s, more versions of themselves they have not yet met. But man, what a privilege it was to be there when our babies gave us the first glimpse of just how extraordinary it might become.#WeAreSanJuan | #HeartBeatsHype by @sanjuan_sc

For a while, you think what hurts the most is losing. But then it settles in and you realize that five months from now, they'll all be somewhere else. They’ll step onto new campuses, meet new teammates, settle into unfamiliar rhythms, and begin building lives that are already waiting for them just beyond this ending. The game will keep asking new things of them, just as it should. Time is gentle while living it and cruel in retrospect, allowing an afternoon in Seattle to feel endless before a whistle blows and reveals it was the last.And that is the part that hurts most. Not because the dream ended, because it did not. The Elite Eight was only where the season stopped, not where their story did. Their lives are opening before them now, exciting and unwritten, and soccer will keep carrying them toward fields, cities, and versions of themselves none of us have met yet. What ended was our time with this version of them. They arrived as "littles," basically still learning where to stand, whom to follow, and occasionally whether anyone else had forgotten a shin guard. Then time, as rude and deeply unserious as ever, moved through hotel hallways, TikTok trends no adult could actually explain, and all the seemingly ordinary days we were foolish enough to believe would keep coming. Spoiler: they don’t. Time never tells you how fast it is moving until the children you were guiding are suddenly the ones reaching back to guide someone else. We thought soccer was the point, but it was only the place where we were lucky enough to watch them become the extraordinary young women they are today. That they became exceptional players along the way now feels almost beside the point.To our 2009s: we were lucky to watch it happen. The future was supposed to send a warning first. Apparently our 2013s skipped that part.Instead, they showed up as the youngest group and did the following: a) won the conference, b) climbed to No. 4 in the nation, c) had a +93 goal differential, and d) left behind a stat line that could easily be confused for a clerical error (although we promise it’s not). What this group did is completely absurd but what makes it even more exciting is knowing how much is still ahead of them. They were supposed to be the glimpse of what is coming next and somehow became one of the biggest stories happening literally right now. Summarized: the future is bright, blindingly bright. There is no such thing as a clean route to the playoffs. That would be too easy. It comes with exhaustive weekends, cruel bounces, lessons learned the hard way and, of course, the occasional game everyone agrees is best left unmentioned. Those silent car rides hit hella different.But it can test a team in a hundred different ways, each one demanding an honest look inward and a choice: find the answer that moves you forward or let the moment fold you in on yourself. For the 2009, 2010 and 2011 ECNL squads, choosing to stay together was always the answer that gave them exactly what they worked so frickin’ hard for. So for working through the parts of the season nobody posts about, and earning the part everyone remembers... congratulations Weezy. We Are San Juan Day is the kind of day you wish you could recognize as a memory before it becomes one.The oldest have already made a thousand memories here. The youngest are just beginning to understand that they will too. For a few hours, they get to share the same field before time moves everyone along.And then, out of nowhere, somebody says something silly, somebody misses the ball by a literal mile, and the whole field gives in to laughter. The bigs forget to be big. The littles stop trying so hard to impress them. And for one evening, nobody carries the future or looks back at the past. They’re just kids together and the whole place feels better for it.That is how a place like this stays special. Not because anyone has to say it is, but because people keep showing up as themselves and making room for the next one. Then, almost without anyone noticing, the kid who was watching becomes the one worth watching and the whole thing begins again.#WeAreSanJuan | #HeartBeatsHype by @sanjuan_sc
