Three weeks ago, our short film got to open @kortfilmfestival. Feeling incredibly grateful to see a project so close to my heart be embraced with so much love. Much love to my friends, fellow filmmakers, cast, crew and everyone involved for making this journey unforgettable.

‘Between Day and Dawn’ will officially open Kortfilmfestival Leuven 2025! 🤍

The film will have its premiere on the opening night and will be screened again in the days after as part of the national competition.

‘Summer feels endless as Marthe travels through the Ardennes with her friends in the late nineties. While they laugh, drink, and drift through the long days, her thoughts stay with her sick sister at home, whose health is getting worse by the day. The further they drive, the heavier the silence grows.’

ΠΟΣΟ ΒΑΡΥ ΜΠΟΡΕΙ ΝΑ ΕΙΝΑΙ ΕΝΑ ΑΤΕΛΕΙΩΤΟ ΚΑΛΟΚΑΙΡΙ; HOW HEAVY CAN AN ENDLESS SUMMER FEEL?

Στο φετινό Διεθνές Διαγωνιστικό Πρόγραμμα Μυθοπλασίας, παρουσιάζουμε το "BETWEEN DAY AND DAWN". Στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του '90, η Marthe ταξιδεύει με τους φίλους της στις Αρδέννες. Ενώ οι μέρες κυλούν με γέλια και ποτά, η σκέψη της είναι καθηλωμένη στην άρρωστη αδελφή της που έμεινε πίσω. Όσο το αυτοκίνητο προχωρά, η σιωπή μέσα της γίνεται όλο και πιο ηχηρή.

Η Lore Loyens, απόφοιτος της σχολής KASK με συμμετοχές σε κορυφαία φεστιβάλ όπως το Cannes Short Film Corner και το Go Short, δημιουργεί ένα ατμοσφαιρικό road movie για το «πένθος πριν την απώλεια». Με αφοπλιστική ειλικρίνεια, η ταινία εξερευνά την ενοχή του να νιώθεις ευτυχισμένος όταν κάποιος δικός σου υποφέρει, υπενθυμίζοντάς μας πως η φιλία μπορεί να μας στηρίξει μόνο αν επιτρέψουμε στους άλλους να δουν το σκοτάδι μας.

In this year's International Fiction Competition, we present "BETWEEN DAY AND DAWN" by Lore Loyens. Set in the late nineties, Marthe drifts through an endless summer with her friends in the Ardennes. But behind the laughter and the long drives lies a painful reality: her sick sister back home. The further they travel, the heavier the guilt of being "away" becomes.

Director Lore Loyens—whose work has reached Cannes and Leuven—crafts a summery, accessible road movie that subtly explores the complex emotions of anticipatory grief. It is a story about the struggle to find joy amidst suffering and the transformative power of opening up to those who love us.

‘Between Day and Dawn’ is selected for the Academy Award qualifying @goshort filmfestival!

The film will screen in both the Main Competition and the Homegrown section.

Dates and details will be announced on March 11.
