We are the custodians of some of the world’s most beautiful environments and it is our duty to maintain and conserve them and our cultural heritage that is attached to them.

We face the challenges of a world that is ever-changing and fast transforming.

Ensuring that these natural and cultural treasures are available for generations beyond our own, we need to reimagine our approach to conservation, tourism and socio-economic transformation within our national parks.

This is why we are developing the SANParks 2040 Vision 2040. We call on the citizens of South Africa to be a part of the conversation to shape our vision and help us to ensure that there are natural parks for our future generations to enjoy.

Join the conversation by registering today via our website.

I am thankful to have been invited as an artist in residence for the inaugural residency hosted by @sanparks at Mapungubwe. This period allowed for deep immersion within the landscape and all the stories it holds. A moment to connect with ancient sites that not only carry a historical relevance , but a great spiritual legacy as well. What becomes increasingly clear is that this was home to many nations, over vast periods of time and each left themselves embedded within the narratives of the land. As an extension of my MA and a form of ancestral continuity, I have been fascinated with the clay work that emanated from the site, both that which was “found” and put into institutional archives as well as that which remains guarding the land in the form of broken pottery chards. Through the residency I have been afforded an opportunity and honour to respond to my ancestors works, and this time, exactly where they too used to work and transmit codes. This moment is also an attempt to appease, to return energy where it was once violently excavated , to affirm that indeed we are still here, and we are still who we’ve always been. I was fortunate enough to be part of the Mapungubwe Heritage Residency.

I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to experience this land once again, but this time, more intimately to sit with it, listen to it, and create from a place of deeper connection.

What an honour it is to create work that will become part of the incredible and ongoing history of this land.

Mapungubwe has left a mark on me in ways I am still finding the words for. I cannot wait to share more of this experience, the work, and the journey with you. 🌿✨

......They stood their ground.

Some standing tall for almost 2000 years.
We forgot how to speak their tongue........and this why we can't ask what they have seen.

I can't wait to findout what the BAOBABS will whisper to me.

I'm here to listen

......I'm hear to listen.

I'm here to findout what the past will whisper to me.....

....what the sandrocks will whisper to me
....what the BAOBABS will whisper to me
....what the caves will whisper to me
....what the gold will whisper
....after their meeting, what the two rivers will whisper
....what the pots will whisper
....what the rock art will whisper
....what the ELEPHANTS might whisper
....and what ants might say

The lions have already announced with their roar every night, that I'm here. taken in Mapungubwe National Park by @sanparks

A landmark two days for Kruger National Park.

Over 6 and 7 September, Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, @davidmaynier, marked major flood recovery milestones across the park, including the handover of three rebuilt culverts on the H4-1 between Skukuza and Lower Sabie, the official reopening of the Letaba High-Level Bridge, and a visit to Letaba Rest Camp, where 25 tourism units have already reopened.

The projects form part of ongoing efforts to restore infrastructure damaged by recent floods and strengthen resilience for the future.

"When the Kruger Park succeeds, SANParks succeeds," said Minister Maynier.

These milestones coincide with the launch of the 21st annual South African National Parks Week, offering free day access to participating national parks from 7 to 13 September in celebration of South Africa's natural and cultural heritage.

Joined by SANParks Board Chairperson Beryl Ferguson, Tourism and Marketing Committee Chairperson Rachel Nxele, CEO Hapiloe Sello, and Managing Executive: Kruger National Park Oscar Mthimkhulu.
