The dolce vita is best understood by experiencing it firsthand, and what better place to do so than the island of Capri?

Students in the Communication, Culture, & Amalfi Coast course, taught by faculty member Dr. Annmarie Willette, explored the island’s history, culture, and unique identity while discovering one of southern Italy’s most iconic destinations.

By connecting course concepts with direct experience, visits like these encourage cultural immersion, exploration, and experiential learning beyond the classroom.

Our students participated in the Premio Amarene event at the Equestrian Rehabilitation Center (CRE), joining members of the local community for the harvest of amarene, a traditional sour cherry variety native to the Sorrento Peninsula. 🌿🍒

Through a hands-on workshop, students also explored how the cherries are transformed into preserves, gaining insight into local traditions and food production practices.

A meaningful service-learning experience that brought together community engagement, cultural exchange, and experiential learning.

The Sorrento Peninsula offers such unique settings for learning beyond the classroom 🌊🇮🇹🤩

During a visit to Ieranto Bay, a protected nature reserve on the Sorrento Peninsula, students in Marine Biology and Conservation courses explored the area’s natural landscapes and ecosystems while gaining a deeper understanding of the region’s environmental and cultural significance.

By connecting course concepts with direct observation, experiences like these encourage reflection, exploration, and experiential learning.

🇺🇸 Yesterday, at the U.S. Consulate General in Naples, Sant’Anna Institute and Napoli Women soccer team officially unveiled a new international partnership focused on education and sport.

The initiative aims to create innovative international pathways that combine academic learning, professional soccer, and cultural immersion.

Beginning with the 2026–27 academic and athletic year, students from the United States will have the opportunity to experience a multidisciplinary program that combines Sant’Anna Institute’s academic offerings with activities developed in collaboration with Napoli Women, providing direct exposure to the daily operations of a Serie A Women professional club.

The partnership is built on a shared belief that sport can be a powerful tool for personal, cultural, and professional growth. Through training sessions, technical and tactical analysis, sport management, performance psychology, sports nutrition, and insights into the management of a professional football club, participants will be able to complement their academic studies with meaningful hands-on experience.

The collaboration also reflects a common vision of promoting Sorrento, Naples, Campania, and Southern Italy as international destinations for study, sport, and cultural exchange, demonstrating how higher education and professional sport can work together to create valuable opportunities for future generations.

From hands-on classes and field experiences to service learning, cultural activities, and daily life on the Sorrento Coast, Maymester 2026 brought together academics and immersion in meaningful ways 🇮🇹☀️

Throughout the session, students explored topics ranging from marine biology and speech pathology to food marketing and nutrition, while connecting with the local community through experiential learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.

Thank you to all of our students, faculty, community partners, and staff who made this Maymester such a memorable experience. We can’t wait to see where these experiences take our students next!
