“Bacin Rai” 2026

A Shepherd’s Anguish

In the aftermath of the recent floods on the 29th June 2026 in Ghana, this painting captures a heartbreaking reality: young shepherds struggling to retrieve a cow that had drowned in the floodwaters of the Alajo gutter.

At the heart of this work is the young man’s face—mouth open in anguish, his grief laid bare. His cry is not only for the animal before him but for everything it represented: months, perhaps years of hard work, sacrifice and hope. In that single moment, the flood has claimed more than livestock; it has swallowed an investment, a livelihood and a piece of his future.

Around him, others lend their strength, reminding us that while disasters can devastate individuals, communities often carry one another through the weight of loss.

This painting is dedicated to everyone whose lives were forever changed by the floods. May we never become indifferent to the human stories behind the headlines.

Arkham Knight, Ghana edition 🇬🇭🦇🤭

My good friend @yasno_ra posted this on her Snapchat story, and in that single frame I instantly knew I was going to paint it.
Accra Central Train Station — a place where time once moved on steel rails, where traders, travellers, and stories crossed paths under the Ghanaian sun.
The trains may sleep now, but the old tracks, the worn machinery, and the fading architecture still breathe softly, holding the echoes of a city in motion.

After finishing the painting, I had to return to this exact spot — just to take it all in again, to feel the stillness, the rust, the memories, and make sure the spirit of the place truly lived on the canvas.

As I stood there, memory stirred…
I could almost hear it — the distant, tender toot of the train from my childhood, a sound that once set my imagination running, a sound that made the world feel wide and full of promise.

And in this Ghana Month, as we look toward celebrating the independence of Ghana, this scene felt even more powerful — a reminder of where we’ve come from, the journeys we’ve taken, and the stories that still shape us.

Thanks @yasno_ra , for capturing the moment that pulled all of this back to life. by @santolla_customs
