This Thursday, we got @santosounds and @joespinoza.co in the house again for Steak Night with Nite Owl. A vinyl set featuring sounds from Chicano and bayou culture, the guys have made it a mission to preserve and educate us on the music that came before us. Invite your friends and make sure to come early. Set starts at 8pm.

Our previous Lil Kenny grave visit video inspired us to continue on with this new task; drop the needle for our legends. We’re calling it Grave Sessions.

On Today’s session we feature an iconic legend in the Houston Chicano Soul Scene of the 60s-80s, Fidencio Garza aka Rocky Gil.

As a powerful voice in the scene, no one could compare. He could sing to you a ranchera just as good as an english soul track.

Over the weekend we headed to his gravesite, gave it a good cleaning, brought him his flowers and played for him his cover of “Every Day Of My Life” to show that although today marks 21 years without his presence, the needle still drops on the songs he use to sing. by @santosounds

Been a while since I posted a record on here.

Unfortunately over the weekend another legend has left the building🕊️

Gilbert Rodriguez was a talented singer out of San Antonio who along with His Blue Notes band put out a number of records throughout their musical journey from 60s to 80s

Here we have one of my favorites from the group, one of their earlier cuts. A sweet double cover 45, with A side being the sweet classic “A Thousand Miles Away” backed by the most recognizable classic, “La Bamba”.
