A few people have joined this page recently, so a slightly unconventional introduction felt appropriate.

I spent 11 years as a news anchor before becoming a communication coach. Somewhere along the way I also became a mother, built a life with my partner and even wrote a bit of erotic fiction that somehow did very well.

All of that has shaped how I think about communication.

Not as etiquette.
Not as polish.

But as the ability to say what you actually mean in meetings, interviews, negotiations, and the moments where most people start shrinking or over-explaining.

Motherhood sharpened that perspective even more. Time gets very real when you’re raising a child. You become clearer about what matters, what doesn’t, and what you’re willing to say out loud.

If you’re new here, welcome. I’m really glad you’re here.

There’s a version of professional ambition we’re sold that looks suspiciously like endless availability.

Be reachable. Say yes. Take the opportunity. Stay late. Keep proving yourself 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

Motherhood made me question that model pretty hard and defo not because I stopped caring about my career. Because I started asking better questions about what was actually worth my time, energy and attention.

And I’m still figuring that out. I suspect a lot of women are. Let me know when you know plz taken in Mumbai, Maharashtra by @sanuchow

I’ve met plenty of incredibly intelligent people who are not particularly good communicators.

( I don’t mean that as an insult)

They know their subject. They’ve done the work. They can think through a problem in ridiculous detail. But when they have to explain it to someone else, suddenly there’s five minutes of context, a pile of jargon, three side points and no idea what the actual takeaway is.

And this is something journalism taught me very early: knowing a lot isn’t the same as knowing what matters.

Your job isn’t to empty your brain onto the listener, but actually decide what they need to understand, what can wait, and what doesn’t need to be said at all.

That’s a communication skill. And honestly, it’s one of the biggest things I work on with clients.

If you’re brilliant at what you do but struggle to communicate it as clearly as you think it, DM me and let’s talk. taken in Mumbai, Maharashtra by @sanuchow

AI can improve your communication. Droves of us now sound sharper, clearer and more persuasive.

But it can also make you sound unlike yourself :P

Before you hit send, ask: Would I actually say this out loud? If not, you may have improved the writing and not the communication.

Use AI to sharpen your thinking, not replace your voice (and personality)

Sometimes the fastest way to take control of a difficult conversation is to stop competing for airtime. Aggression can make you want to interrupt immediately, I often do the opposite

Being composed doesn’t mean becoming quieter and softer the moment someone gets aggressive. I care much more about being clear, deliberate and difficult to derail

Someone being unpleasant doesn’t automatically make them wrong. If there’s a valid point buried underneath the delivery, I’ll acknowledge it. That doesn’t mean I’m surrendering the rest of my position.

If the only way to be considered “easy to work with” is to never disagree, never push back and never hold a boundary, I’m not particularly interested in that definition.

This is one I learnt the hard way: being empathetic doesn’t mean becoming responsible for regulating everyone around you

The real skill isn’t learning how to “win” against aggressive people. It’s learning how to stay deliberate when someone else is trying to pull you into their way of communicating taken in India by @sanuchow

Can you bring an iced coffee to a job interview? Apparently, this is now a workplace controversy. 😂

A recruiter went viral after saying that Gen Z candidates turning up to interviews with an iced coffee can make it look like the interview is just another stop between Target and Starbucks. The internet, naturally, had thoughts and while I laughed at the outrage I also agree with the point that most people arguing about this aren’t actually the audience for the original advice.

If you’re interviewing for a very buttoned up Fortune 500 company, you might want to know how certain behaviour is going to be perceived in that environment.

You don’t have to agree with the rule and you don’t even have to like the culture. But if you’re trying to get hired, understanding the room you’re walking into is part of the game.

Now I want to know: Would YOU take an iced coffee into a job interview? Yes or no? And tell me why.

Eye contact is one of those things people completely overcomplicate. And boys, especially in client meetings, please listen to this one.

Look at the person’s eyes. That’s where you’re supposed to be looking. Not below the chin. Not at their mouth. And definitely not wandering around their body while they’re talking to you.

You don’t need to stare either. Look at them, listen, look away naturally, come back. That’s normal eye contact. Because the minute the other person starts wondering “Why is he looking at me like that?”, you have a problem.

You can have a brilliant pitch and a great product. But if you’ve made your client uncomfortable, that’s the bit they’re going to remember.

This came up during my pitching workshop in Pune because good body language isn’t about looking impressive. It’s about making the other person comfortable enough to keep listening to you.

And yes, boys. Eyes. Keep them there. 😌

We’re constantly told to “communicate with confidence.” But sometimes the issue isn’t confidence.

It’s the tiny ways we’ve learnt to soften, qualify and apologise for what we’re saying.

“I just wanted to…”
“Sorry, can I…?”
“I might be wrong, but…”

None of these phrases are inherently bad. Context matters. But if you notice yourself using them before almost every question, opinion or idea, it’s worth asking:

Am I being thoughtful about how I communicate, or am I making myself smaller before anyone else gets the chance to?

Save this for your next meeting. taken in Mumbai, Maharashtra by @sanuchow

A good pitch isn’t just about having the right words.

It’s about whether you can make people believe you, trust you and care about what you’re saying. I recently worked with a brilliant group of business owners and entrepreneurs on pitching, alongside business strategist and @networkingnowindia Founder @shaanskhanna .

Shaan covered what goes into the pitch.
I worked on how you deliver it. Because you can have the strongest pitch in the room and still lose people if you rush, over explain, hide behind your slides or sound like you’re reciting something you memorised.

Delivery isn’t the finishing touch, it’s literally part of the pitch.

If you’re a founder, business owner or professional who knows you have something valuable to say but want to communicate it with more clarity, confidence and impact. DM me and let’s talk about working together. taken in Pune, Maharashtra by @sanuchow
