POSTS STORIES REELS

The Collector by Daniel Silva

First of all thanking @harpercollinsin team for sending me this beautiful copy for review.
This was my first Gabriel Allon book and even though initially I found it hard to follow the different POVs. But as the story progressed it became easy to understand the plot.

Plot : the world's most valuable painting goes missing & Gabriel Allon, art restored & more importantly the legendary spy, is called back from retirement to track it down. There are already deaths following the trail to the paint & Gabriel has to hasten the chase else he will lose his only clue to the painting - the professional thief who stole it.

The whole book is fast paced & is a race against time. It felt like watching a James Bond movie & it was impossible to put it down. Even though I need to understand the history shared between the characters, the author has written the story in such a way that you get to know the characters & understand their dynamic on a basic level. I loved the book & it made me want to read the backlist of the Gabriel Allon series so that I can enjoy the banter more.

Rating : 4/5 🌟

Growing Up (Book 3 in Gopi Diaries Series) by Sudha Murthy

This was my first book by Sudha Murty and it was such a treat. Even though this is a children's book, as an adult, I truly enjoyed Gopi's antics and Sudha mam's quick wits. The book is filled with beautiful moments that will fill your hearts with joy and love.

Gopi is a fun-filled, loveable golden retriever who loves his Ajjis, Ajja and his home. He loves playing in the garden and farm- chasing parrots and eating cucumbers. In this book, he meets new friends and the love of his life - Nova. Their love is pure and wholesome; the progress in their journey is even paced and cute. The book ends with Gopi completing a family with Nova.

What I loved the most in this book is the bond between Gopi & Ajji. They love & support each other in subtle ways - how she says "Gopi now knows how to take a shower", when it was by accident that Gopi turned on the shower. I have also become a fan of Sudha Murthy's works. Her writing style is simple and sweet. I will be reading more of her works as well as the previous books in this series.

And a special mention to the illustrator @sandhyaprabhat for the beautiful illustrations that fills the book.

Thank you @afterschooltales and @harpercollinsin for sending me this copy ❤️❤️❤️

The Fall of the School for Good and Evil (Book 2 in Prequel duology for The School of Good and Evil)

Plot : The balance between Good and Evil has failed.
The School of Good and Evil is failing. All because of - two brothers!
A sacred bond between two brothers is broken & the Storian is determined to fix it.
.
OMG this was a solid 4.5⭐ read for me. I really enjoyed this book, eventhough it is the second book of a prequel duology to a well loved fantasy series. I was able to follow the story after 30-35 page in itself. But for anyone who would love to start with this world, I think it will be better to start with the Book 1 (The Rise of the School for Good and Evil).

I read this book as part of the #litwithya campaign by @harpercollinschin and it was the best reading decision I had taken. This book is a YA fantasy that brings to life so many if our childhood fairytales - Peter Pan, Alladin, etc.. and give it a more Dark twist. I had always felt Peter Pan was a spoiled kid & that's exactly what the author had done with this story, he dives into the takes & explored the actual Good & Evil in the characters. I loved the characters the most especially Rafal, Hook, Kyma & Midas - so basically Team Evil 😁.

The topics discussed in this book especially the concept of Good & Evil - our understanding of it and how it can be different for each one of us. It was just fascinating to read and annotate. The ending to the duology is just perfect - it gave me just the tiny glimmer of what to expect in the sequel series. I will definitely be reading all the books in the series & return for a re-read of this one. My only gripe was the lack of a map, though it was a small one.

♏TL;DR Satya: Bharat – The Suppressed Soul by Ankur Sen

♏My Review:
TL;DR Satya: Bharat – The Suppressed Soul by Ankur Sen is a non-fiction book that analyses India's historical narratives by investigating the primary documents, declassified files, reports and archival records. The book also raises questions about historical figures, significant events in history, stories that are passed on throughout the generations, etc . . . The author aims to shine light upon these instances and details that might not have received sufficient attention and importance in the popular narratives.

The book includes debates on historical monuments, contributions of lesser known leaders, unanswered queries about the freedom struggle, etc ... The main highlight of this book is that, rather than stating facts and dumping info on us, readers, the author allows us to look beyond the familiar accounts in history and to examine the evidence for ourselves. The core idea of this book is to encourage the readers to approach history with curiosity, critical thinking and basically an open mind rather than with trepidation. The author also investigates how historical narratives are established and followed in this ever-changing society.

Overall, this book is a perfect read for readers who are interested in Indian history, research, cultural heritage, alternate interpretation of historical events and research-specific, thought-provoking writing.

♏Book: Mishika and the Three Lions by Divya Mishra

Mishika and the Three Lions by Divya Mishra is a children's fiction book that follows a little girl, Mishika who gets lost and is trying to find her way back home. Along the way, she meets three lions — the Drak Lion, the Gold Lion and the White Lion; that symbolized the feelings of fear, courage and finding the inner strength to overcome all doubts and obstacles. This is a simple yet empowering tale that resonates with the children.

The book is filled with large and beautiful illustrations that help little kids to easily follow the story as we narrate to them. At its very core, this is a tale of overcoming our fears when faced with a hurdle, finding the courage to take the next step even when we are lost in our path and ultimately identifying the inner strength within ourselves that will help us navigate these difficult situations. I feel that this is an ideal read for kids as it shines light upon the importance of finding the inner strength and courage to face life and its trials rather than staying back in fear of failure.

Overall, this book is a small one, hardly 20 pages long, making it the perfect read for the young ones.

♏Book: Zidd! by Hetansh Desai

♏My Review:
Zidd! by Hetansh Desai is an engaging story that follows Vihaan and Parth, two young men with conflicting personalities who find friendship, ambition and the drive to make the impossible into reality. Though the book seems to be a simple contemporary novel at first glance, we get to see how the main characters build their friendships over time, and face the obstacles that arise from their families, relationships and other people in their world. The book also explores how some bonds once forged are able to survive all the odds and how they provide us with the confidence and courage to strive to achieve our goals.

The author's writing style is easy to read and is fun-filled. The author has kept the tone of the book light-hearted; it is filled with humor blended with drama and excitement as the story moves on. At the heart of the story, we get to see an amazing friendship and bond that stands strong even regardless of so many trials they face along the way.

We also get to see a wide array of side characters who are reliable and easy to love, which in itself is a strong point for any story.

Overall, this is a delightful story that makes you smile, feel nostalgic, laugh out and even cry as you read on. A beautiful tale of friendship and dreams that becomes a magical reality.

♎Book: The S(H)indh Struggle by IPS Lohit Matani and Nikhil Chandwani

♎My Review:
The S(H)indh Struggle by IPS Lohit Matani and Nikhil Chandwani is a historical non-fiction that explores the history and resilience of the Sindhi Hindu community as they faced many struggles like displacement, cultural loss and their search for a place to call their own. In this book, we are taken back into history to experience the toll the community in general had to undergo to find a place in post-partition India. We get to see the challenges they had to face through history to preserve their heritage across generations.

The author has been able to capture the courage, perseverance as well as faith they had to hold on to while faced with the worst situation ever — lose one's homeland and having to start from square one. The author highlights the importance of remembering the tales and plights of not only the revolutionaries but also the common people in general.

This book is written as a tribute to the community who had to be resilient, strong and entrepreneurial in the new India. It also discusses how, even though they have tried to build their new lives while holding onto their ancestral roots, sometimes language, traditions, memories and even tales of glory are lost as time passes on.

Overall, this book is a heartfelt narrative that will act as a reminder of the spirit of the Sindhu Hindu community.

♎Book: Mile High by Liz Tomforde

♎My Review:

Mile High by Liz Tomforde is the first book in a series called Windy City series. In this book we follow the Hockey defenceman Zanders who is one of the best in the Raptors team & the issue is that he knows it. He is arrogant, narcissistic to the core and handsome as hell. He doesn't want your love rather he yearns for your hate & relishes in it. Yet when he is faced with Stevie, who doesn't fall for his devilish charms and seems to be benign towards his advances, he gets pushed to his edge.

Oh God where do I start.....this was such a blast for me. After reading the Things We Never Got Over series, I was searching for a good romance series with yearning at its best & this was just it. I absolutely fell in love with all the characters and their close knit bond. The way each character grows and becomes their true selves as the story progresses was simply a joy to read. Each of them has a back story that you want to dive into but the showstopper was the MCs - Zee & Vee simply had my heart from the 30% mark. If Zee is a cutie then Vee was a sweetheart; even when it got cringey it was simply the best to read and giggle. Their banter, nicknames, craziness and the bond and life they ultimately build together is simply a dream come true moment. The childhood trauma that they had to face and overcome throughout the story is deep and the way they move on and forget a new path and found family is simply inspiring to watch. Ultimately the end doesn't feel like one as we know the premise for the next book is already set by the epilogue & I can't wait to swoon over them - Ryan & Indy.
