Happy AANHPI Month cousins 🤎 🪷🌟

These are recent-ish events and experiences I’ve had of trying to connect more to my culture. A summary to remember it’s not too late to learn about Khmer culture and that it’s an active practice !!

• Last September, MN held its first recognized Cambodian Heritage Day that my sister(!!!) was a part of. I almost cried during a young, self-taught musician’s tro performance.
• In October, I got to wear a full traditional tevada outfit for the first time in a Pchum parade. (Yes, I picked green to match my sister).
• This past winter, @artsmia held “Royal Bronzes: Cambodian Art of the Divine” which showcased some Khmer artifacts and statues that have never been showcased in USA before.
• This April, my friend and I got to be tevadas for the New Year parade at Wat for the first time! This is something I’ve always wanted to do since seeing my Ming be a Chnam Thmey tevada as a little girl.
• This was also my first year making an altar for my yaey, the baddest yaey out hehe. I invited her to join us for New Year and felt grounded getting ready at the original temple that I used to sit with her at.
• Enjoy all the audio bc I don’t know how to turn it off for individual videos anymore lol. by @saowavy
