Four years ago, my Writing professor, a Black, Christian woman like me, called me a ‘gifted writer.’ While I was flattered, I knew there were others like me with the same God-given gift, who just needed the encouragement to share it with the world.

That’s the goal of this magazine: to be a space where different kinds of storytelling can thrive. Welcome to Saphar!

Our first episode of the year is live! 🎉

In this episode, we’re joined by @ellaroli_ to talk about her childhood, faith, and the relationships that shape us.

She gets candid about how her relationship with God has changed over time, what it meant for her to break free from legalism, and how she now navigates friendships in adulthood.

The links to watch and listen are in our bio! 🧡 by @sapharcollective

February is one of our favourite months because we get to talk about love in all its different, wholesome forms.

Our book of the month, This Thing Called Love, is one we’ve been excited to share since its release. It’s a collection of fourteen short stories split into two parts, Eros and Psyche.

Oreva Ode-Irri (@rehviie ) does a brilliant job of exploring the gift of love and friendship. She doesn’t shy away from the mushiness of it all and gives it to us bountifully, while also holding space for the painful realities life sometimes brings.

If you’re outside Nigeria, the book is available for purchase on Amazon.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we are 💕

Meet our Guest Speaker: Kiisi @kiisi.ad

She is a writer and storyteller guided by the belief that our stories matter, especially the ones we tell about ourselves.

She founded @sapharcollective, a magazine tailored to creatives and their stories, and co-authored Ife, a collection of short love stories. She also runs @talking.faith, a Christian blog where she shares lessons from her walk with Jesus.

Whether through her own writing or creating platforms for others, she is committed to amplifying stories that shape who we are.

We’re intentional about bringing voices into the room tha have walked the road and learned the craft.

Expect depth, clarity, and honest perspective from this one.

Save the date and come ready to have an experience 🤍

Introducing Saphar’s Book of the Month: Break, Blow, Burn & Make by E. Lily Yu. 🌿

What does it mean to be a writer? What does it mean to be a reader?

Through a collection of reflective essays, this book invites us to sit with these questions, gently unsettling our assumptions and expanding the way we think about story, imagination, and meaning. It calls us inward, asking us to examine how we see the world, and how the ways we write and read quietly reveal what we believe about it and, ultimately, about God.

Grab a copy on Amazon to read along with us. We’re looking forward to sharing more reflections from this book with you by the end of the month.
