2️⃣ TJR tattoos now. I’m a sucker. How could I not be? I loved Evelyn Hugo, so that tattoo was an EASY choice. An Atmosphere tattoo felt even easier. I know that they’re different books, hardly comparable. Both had me in a chokehold, still do. I love Joan! I love Vanessa! I love @tjenkinsreid! I love women!

Please read this & you’ll understand 😭 👩‍🚀 💫 🪐🚀

Bloom town review:

Bloom Town Genesis kicks off with Abby on a train from the Midwest in 1852, heading to be with her husband in California who had allegedly been building a new town for a couple of years—until she’s kidnapped by children and held for ransom by an outlaw named Joey, who she quickly (and a little unexpectedly) becomes enamored with. Bloom Town Exodus picks up where the first leaves off, diving deeper into Abby’s journey with both intimacy and spirituality, self-discovery, and survival.

I thought the first book was okay—honestly, a bit of a push to get through. I understand why people call it sexy, but that wasn’t really what kept me going. I actually wasn’t planning on reading the second until the first ended on a cliffhanger.

The second book felt stronger overall—less driven purely by physical intimacy and more thought out in terms of story and character growth. (If intimacy is what you’re here for, though, you’ll definitely find it in both) I especially appreciated Abby’s (mostly positive) realization that she could be both religious/spiritual and queer, even while dealing with her reverend father’s bigoted (and wholly wrong) worldview.

Overall, they were okay reads—not my favorites, but I’m glad I finished them.
(I took this pic in Death Valley National Park years ago, thought it fit the theme hehe)

Saw this on BookTok, so I decided to give it a try. Normally when I’m in a slump I reach for Harper Bliss or some other easy rot reading, but this totally surprised me—in the best way. It was written better, the plot was stronger, and no shit it had some of the best sapphic spice I’ve read in ages.

It’s a dark romance with a bullying trope and BEAUTIFUL 🔥 scenes. For years, Juliette has made Adaline’s life miserable, and then suddenly Adaline’s assigned to be her tutor. Juliette is fuckin crazy I love her!!! They absolutely loathe each other, but the tension is so good. I love a good enemies-to-lovers, and this one avoided the cheesy pitfalls—it felt sharp, tense, and addictive. Highly recommend if you want something angsty, steamy, and actually well-written.

Would LOVE for Khan to release something else. I’d devour it in a heartbeat. Check it out rn!!!!

This is classic Harper Bliss age-gap romance featuring Raffo, a heartbroken young artist, and Dylan, a charismatic older woman who’s grappling with her own regrets and emotional baggage. Raffo is best friends with Dylan’s son — adding an extra layer of tension and forbidden energy to their relationship.

The book has its share of messy decisions and a few plot holes, but it delivers on the steamy escapism Bliss is known for. While not groundbreaking, it’s the kind of brain rot read that scratches the itch and is perfect for pulling you out of a reading slump.

“Bravery is being unafraid of something other people are afraid of. Courage is being afraid, but strong enough to do it anyway.” 🚀🌌⭐️🌙🩶

Loved it. Not totally surprised—TJR rarely misses. While it didn’t quite hit Evelyn Hugo levels for me, it was still very good.

The book follows Joan, one of the first women selected for NASA’s astronaut training program, and her unexpected connection with Vanessa, a fellow candidate. Set against the backdrop of early space exploration, it’s part love story, part historical fiction. There’s a definite Sally Ride influence here (watch Sally on Disney+ if you haven’t yet- thank me later!!!!)—you can feel the research and respect for women in STEM and what they were up against during that era.

The romance is tender and complicated, but the story also digs into ambition, isolation, and the cost of breaking barriers. Joan and Vanessa both felt real, sharp, and vulnerable, and their dynamic carried the heart of the story for me.

I know a lot of people have given her hell for lack of technicality in this space, which I understand. I’m not an astronaut and neither is Reid. But that being said, I think it was technical enough, while also having good themes to keep a reader who may not be as entrenched in STEM to follow. Read it! Lmk what you think!

Read this a while back. I can see the *why* of people loving it. But it missed the mark just a tad for me. I appreciated the feminist lens she brought to Greek mythology. Circe herself is a compelling character, I enjoyed the complexities of her story.

That said, while I enjoyed the journey and admired the craft, it wasn’t my favorite thing I’ve ever read. Some parts felt a little slow for me, and I didn’t connect with the story as deeply as I thought I might, especially given how many people love it.

I’m open to revisiting it someday — I feel like it’s the kind of book that could feel differently on a second read, especially with more distance or a different mindset. Overall, it was okay — a solid read that I’m glad I picked up, even if it didn’t completely blow me away. I have heard a lot of people say The Song of Achilles was better. What do you think?

Happy Pride, DC! 🏳️‍🌈📚 (and everywhere)

Feeling endlessly grateful for the vibrant, queer-centered literary community I’ve found both in this city and online. There’s something so special about this space—full of stories, recommendations, and people who truly get it.

Queer literature is powerful. It’s visibility. It’s history. It’s healing. Protecting these stories—past, present, and future—is essential. Consuming these stories is essential. Writing these stories… it is essential. Stay united, stay reading.

As always, this is a safe space. Come out when and how you’re ready. Keep loving big. Keep showing up. And keep reading queer books. HAPPY PRIDE 🌈

Haven’t posted in a while, and there are several books. I have read since I last did. This was my best read of 2024. (& Monstrilio hehe)

Demon holds a special place in my heart. It is one of those rare novels that burrows deep into your soul and stays with you long after you turn the last page. Rooted in the heart of Appalachia, this story felt personal to me — like coming home, even through its heartbreak and hardship.

Kingsolver’s reimagining of David Copperfield is more than a literary feat; it’s a voice for a region and its people that have long been misunderstood, stereotyped, or simply left behind. As someone from coal country, I saw so much of home in these pages — the quiet strength of the land, the unspoken grief of generational loss, and the resilience it takes to survive in a place the world often overlooks.

Demon, the narrator and heart of the story, embodies that very resilience. His journey is steeped in tragedy, addiction, poverty, and injustice, yet he never loses his spark — his wit, his grit, or his hope. He is both a product of his environment and a fighter against it, and in him, I saw so many people I grew up with: kids who were smart and capable but never given a fair shot. His story is a testimony to those who are left out of the American narrative — not because they have nothing to offer, but because no one ever bothered to ask.

The characters are exceptionally well built — not romanticized, but real. Flawed, beautiful, frustrating, and true. Kingsolver gives every person in Demon’s world a backstory, a voice, and a reason for being the way they are. It’s a reminder that in Appalachia, like anywhere else, people are layered and complex — not caricatures.

I’d recommend Demon Copperhead to anyone from Appalachia for the way it holds up a mirror to our experiences and says, You matter. Your story matters. And for those outside the region, it offers a much-needed window into lives too often dismissed — not for pity, but for understanding. This novel doesn’t just ask you to bear witness; it demands it. And in doing so, it gives light to stories worth telling. by @sapphiclibrary_
