I loved this book, I couldn't put it down, even though I was going through a reading slump when I read it.

This is truly an academic rivals to lovers. As I read this book, I remember gasping in astonishment, "no, they did not". Because I couldn't believe the twisted things they'd do to each other to be better academically than the other.

McQuiston always finds a way to make the friend groups so realistic and make the reader feel like they're a part of it. I loved the characters and seeing their development throughout the book.

Moreover, I think Chloe was a really unconventional narrator and I think it's brilliant. I loved seeing the world through her eyes (and not only because I related to her a lot). Besides, it's so well written that I found myself knowing what the characters were feeling with a certainty, even if they didn't say it.

I really liked the fact that the main character has two mothers, and it's the first book that I read that has that. Queer people have always been here, and I think it's important to have representation of the older generations too.

Besides, the vibes were incredible. I totally recommend it if you're looking for a black cat dark academia girl × hyperfeminine pink Lana Del Rey girl aesthetic (you'll get it when you read it). And it's a slow burn ;)

♡

#QOTD: If you could time travel to any time period, when would you go?

#AOTD: I'm a sucker for the Victorian era. Black long gowns with corsets, drinking tea while gossiping, going to balls, love letters... think about it.

(It's been so long that I don't even remember it. I want to reread it before writing a review, but I'll have to wait until the summer because it's at home and I moved out. So meanwhile I'm saving the spot on the feed so that I can keep posting other reviews).

#QOTD: What are you currently reading/watching/playing to?

#AOTD: I'm reading The Secret History and I couldn't be more obsessed with it, however I can't find much time to read because of university. These few months have flown by so quickly, like my birthday is on the 18th OF THIS MONTH :0.

This is a book about mental health problems and feeling invisible around people.

I wanted to relate to this, I wanted to find it moving, but I found it boring. To simplify it, it's 200 pages of a 1h conversation and little more. It literally feels like nothing's happening, and I felt I had wasted my time reading it.

I also think the mental health aspect wasn't really relatable to me because of the way it was brought up in the narration. It felt as if someone was telling me what my symptoms were, rather than someone that's actually experienced them talking about it. So it seemed a bit plot-less and boring to me.

On the positive side, I really liked the drawings, I think they really give you that kind of cozy fall vibe, perfect for this season.

Overall, I think it was a good idea, however, it was so slow and so filled with nothing that it got boring.

#QOTD: Would you rather have superpowers or be rich?

#AOTD: I choose superpowers because I know if I had some I'd figure a way to get rich.

❝𝑾𝒆 𝒑𝒐𝒊𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒚 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒆 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆.❞

This is the second book of The Mortal Instruments series. Downworlder children are being found dead in New York, and we follow the story as our main characters try to find out who is doing it, but more importantly: why?

It took me ages to finish this book, and not because it's bad, it's an okay book, but it felt so shallow. I had to force myself to read it, and in the end I realized it just wasn't a memorable book.

I know the plot slightly changes, but it all felt the same for me, from book one we have the same kind of dynamics: Valentine is bad, Valentine tries to do something bad, they try to stop it, Simon is jealous, Clary likes Jace, but somehow she's always involved in a love triangle with them both, if she chooses Jace, Simon gets mad; but if she chooses him, he gets mad anyway (because it's just out of pity).

And hear me out, this was amusing at first, but as the story is supposedly going forward, having the same problems over and over just gets tiring. It makes it incredibly predictable.

On the other hand, the writing got better, and I really like reading about these characters. I think Cassandra Clare has a way of making her characters so real and unique from one another.

My favorite part of this book is the Malec, I like how it's slowly evolving into something less secret, if that makes sense. I can't wait to read more about them and their relationship.

To summarize, this was a meh for me, but I've read some of her newest books and I know she has really evolved in terms of writing, so I hope the third book is better than the second.

#QOTD: How is your reading goal going if you have one?

#AOTD: I honestly don't know if I'm gonna make it I've read 34/50 books. But I don't like rushing my reading anyway so if I end up reading 40 instead I'm fine with that.

How We Fall Apart

❝𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝒏𝒐𝒃𝒐𝒅𝒚 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒎𝒆.
𝑁𝑜𝑏𝑜𝑑𝑦.❞

This is one of those books you just can't put down, I really enjoyed reading it. If you liked One of us is lying, this is similar, but better. Plus it's dark academia.

It's very fast-paced and so many things happen at the same time, which makes you forget you're even reading it. It touches a lot of problems that are rarely acknowledged in our society in such a simple way so that even if you've never had to go through them, I'd still be easy for you to understand the characters' situation. Besides, it kind of felt like criticism towards the academic system. Specially about how kids are treated and forced to achieve something within it, even at cost of their mental health. And that's something that I relate to a lot.

Although the relationship between the characters felt a bit flat and forced for me, and I'd have liked to have more depth in that aspect.

I really like the way it's distributed, like a newspaper, a diary and a phone at the same time. Overall, I recommend this book, it's really entertaining and quick to read and perfect to get out of a reading slump.

I made a playlist for this book, the link to it is on my highlights :)

By the way, if you want to preorder "The Lies We Tell" also by @ktzhaoauthor , you'll find the link on my bio.

#QOTD: Have you ever bought one of those boxes with clues to solve a murder case?

#AOTD: I haven't but I think it'd be a cool thing to do.

Summer photo dump <3🍂📖♟

Hey! I'm officially back from my summer break and I decided it was a good idea to post all these photos that I took in my unceasing pursuit of being aesthetic.

I bought a lot of books during my trip to the UK so I might post a book haul later on. Anyway, it's almost autumn aka Halloween season. As the fan of horror movies that I am, I spend the whole year waiting for this season to come so I'm excited to say the least.

#QOTD: What are you going to read/watch during this season?

#AOTD: I still don't know about the books but I'm planning on doing an horror movie marathon (if you want horror movie recs ask for them, I'd be delighted to provide some).

I don't know what to say about this book aside from the fact that it felt completely unnecessary. It could have easily been a stand-alone because the main characters from the first book are barely mentioned. I was excited because the first book was good, and I wanted to know what would happen next, but I felt scammed. If you want to write more about a different drama in the same high-school, that's fine, just don't call it a sequel.

The new characters just pissed me off, saying and thinking stuff that was just not it. And TW: hp reference that no one asked for.

The positive thing about this book is that I'm always down for some teen drama, so it was mainly entertaining. I enjoyed trying to guess the plot-twist (which I did btw because it was very predictable), but that's about it.

I'll probably be reading the third book because I can't have unfinished stuff, but if you haven't read these books, I can assure you're fine.

#QOTD: What's a book that disappointed you?

This book touches so many mental illness problems, and it does it so well.

It takes place after the fourth graphic novel as Nick tries to reincorporate himself into a "normal" life.

It's truly an important book whether you're going through something similar to what Nick's going through, you just want to understand it or just to be entertained.

However, this is not a pink and happy book, it's sad, and it's infuriating and overall it's real. So keep that in mind as well as the tw.

It's quick to read, and I didn't even realize I was reading it.

#QOTD: Are you an avengers fan? If yes, who is your favorite character and movie?

#AOTD: I would consider myself a fan even though I still need to catch up with a lot of the new stuff. I've been obsessed with those movies since I was a kid. My favorite characters are Kate Bishop, Scarlet Witch, Loki, Yelena Belova and Spider-man but I like so many more. And my favorite movie is Age of Ultron.
