In the darkness
Stars would talk to us
Tuck us in and comb our hair

Nights were never long enough
In the morning there is only us
Would the stars please explain why they stayed so far away?

You are sparkling
But you are just broken light
I wonder what you'd have to say if you could read and write?
When will your bright pinholes give me more than just winks and dust?

So, lay quietly
Weep into your pillow
Dazzling in your spacious nothingness
Happy to play second fiddle, terrified by your own beguile
I won't wait for the requiem, Hyperion

Fall Exhibitions at SITE SANTA FE 🍁

Sara Genn: How to Build a Sky
October 16, 2026–February 14, 2027
at SITE SANTA FE

Sara Genn’s latest multi-panel paintings of geometric abstraction demonstrate her ability to find endless variation in subtle distinctions of color, shape, and texture. In the courtyard of Wallerstein Family Terrace, a newly commissioned mural—the artist’s first—features crisp lines that are made entirely by hand with an approach that Genn calls “a defiant softness.”

Sara Genn (b. 1972) @saragenn is a Canadian-born visual artist who works between Brooklyn, NY and Palm Springs, CA. Mentored by her father, a plein-air landscape painter, Genn’s work focuses on the nuances of how color is perceived and organized. She also references principles of her Japanese heritage through the aesthetic of wabi-sabi.

Her work has been featured in publications such as The New York Times, Architectural Digest, and NYLON Japan, and can be found in public collections such as the Palm Springs Art Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. She has been painting and exhibiting continuously since 1991.

When asked about Art's purpose, American record producer Rick Rubin replied that it was to say, "this is how I see it." I interpret this as confirmation of my own decades-deep investigation into seeing - and making things to be looked at and felt. To expand upon Rubin's remark, "This is how I FEEL it."
