SARAH BENNETT, Artist Feature ( 1/3 )

Sarah Bennett is a wedding and portrait photographer based in Northern California, raised along the South Fork of the American River.

Working primarily on film, Sarah documents intimate weddings, couples, and family sessions with a photojournalistic approach shaped by her background in theatre and journalism. Her practice honors the imperfect and beautiful moments of connection — chasing “photos that feel lived in” through the slow, intentional pace of analog process.

In our most recent Artist Interview, Sarah reflects on the path that led her to photography and the deeper meaning she’s chasing in her work.

“What started as ‘let’s see where this goes’ turned into a passion that not only is joyful, but also fills me with a desire to search for the deeper meaning behind the heart and the art.”

Moments from Moab.

Celebrating Sarah + Ryan. After 1.5 years of chats, a coastal proposal, an excellent lunch + walk around their old SF neighborhood—-followed by the best churros at their welcome dinner. Sarah and Ryan threw such a magical wedding at the @theredearthvenue surrounded by their amazing friends and family.

Joy:

These small moments before 2 becomes 3.

Still so in love with this beautiful foggy day with Lucy + Ben. Thank you for trusting my creative vision and for sharing more of your journey with me.

Through their eyes:

Chloe and Fisher didn’t want a “Wedding Photographer” for their day. They didn’t want moments to feel invasive or forced. They wanted to feel like they could be themselves, imperfectly and naturally the whole time.

So we choose to document their day on 27 rolls of film.

Film for all of us felt like the solution for “In the moment” photos that felt like little slices of memory.

Shooting this way changed me creatively forever and in many ways I am still discovering.

A beautiful late Summer day in San Francisco with Sarah + Ryan.

We met last year when Ryan reached out to me to document their proposal and my goodness was the day absolutely beautiful at the Harbor House Inn. Now—-less than a month from now I will be traveling to Moab to document their magical Wedding Weekend.

These are some photos from our Coffee Date//Lunch where we explored their neighborhood and chatted over an excellent lunch.

I LOVE getting to grab coffee or a meal with each of my couples before their wedding day—we usually take some film photos and have a simple walk around their favorite place.

These are wonderful ways to capture memories without the stress of additional engagement sessions + we really get to know one another better, so on your wedding day I show up as a friend and not a stranger.

Looking forward to the rest of this beautiful year and excited to explore with all of my amazing 2027 couples.
