POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Absolutely thrilled to announce I'm now represented by Isabel Lineberry at @perezliterary! I'm so grateful to have her enthusiasm and knowledge in my corner for both DAMNED AND DIVINE as well as my future work.

This is going to get lengthy, but what a wonderful problem - how lucky am I to have benefited from the support of so many people?

First off, ENORMOUS thank you to @kaliereidwrites for going so far above and beyond as my mentor not only by helping D&D shine but by being a continual point of support through the query trenches. Whoever gets you as a mentor this year is so lucky!

Everybody in @smoochpitig was so supportive and helpful, from those volunteering their time to my fellow 2024 mentees (and especially my critique partners!). Special thanks to @maiab113 for being such a great friend and sounding board - I'm so glad our Edwardian-era stories pointed us toward each other.

Also, shout out to @meredithphillipswrites for being awesome about sharing writing resources through her youtube channel - I wouldn't have discovered SmoochPit otherwise!

Thank you @authorsaraheahart for being my longest critique partner and creating a place where I learned what a writing group could be. @ljscarpello, you have been such a ceaselessly positive cheerleader and have opened so many avenues of support to me, including introducing me to @camilla_raines who has been so patient and kind with my questions and freak outs.

I'm so excited to dive into this new chapter of my writing journey! by @sarahartewrites

It's been a minute since I've had a good ol fashioned "park yourself in a coffee shop for hours of editing" spree, but this time of year is perfect for it - especially around Portland where there are so many cute shops to choose from. It was nice to poke and prod at the draft after letting it sit for a while. I'd thought I was done for now... but apparently not!

What was even nicer was all the other things I got to do! Meeting @rebeccamseidler and talking about writing and the wild world of publishing, enjoying nature and the fall weather, and getting an unexpected visit were all such a delight (not to mention stocking up on a new read from @hiddenworldsbookstore). by @sarahartewrites

This spring it was rug making. Now it's linocut prints. Next.... possibly the 10 week course on jewelry making and metalsmithing at the local college? Would that be too unhinged?? (Yes but also 👀✨️)

Anyway, the older I've gotten, the more I've realized I just want to DO things without the expectation of ever getting good. I think western culture (especially in the US) gets hung up on doing something for an end product. But sometimes I just want the doing! That's all I need! by @sarahartewrites

Ooooo how I love a little art nouveau motif + Edwardian fashion moment 👌

I should probably learn an art program other than Sai, but the new ones scare me and I'm impatient. 👵 (Also I better not have posting issues from using a filter to adjust how crazy saturated this was on my phone compared to my computer!)

Anyway, originally Celia had some flowers to tie in the colors from the border, but then it amused me to make it sage... worth a shot against a demon, right??

While not a lot of words got on the page this summer, my writing brain was kind of in overdrive a lot of the time! Exploring new places is always such a great opportunity to marinate in inspiration while stashing away little details to utilize later.

I really enjoyed getting to see things that made me think about projects I've written (my poor friend had to stop SO MANY TIMES to indulge my lock photo needs) and projects I hope to write.

So I have a billion pictures from the remainder of my trip, but Muckross Abbey...!!!! 😍 Be still my heart.

Lucked out with weirdly beautiful weather while in Ireland, and then lucked out again by getting to the abbey about 10 minutes before the crowds. There were maybe 5 other people milling about while I was there, so I got to really enjoy what a cool place it is. The vibes of this place are immaculate 👌 (and really inspiring... or is that just me trying to avoid editing?) by @sarahartewrites

I sent off the first clean-ish draft of a new manuscript to my agent the day before peacing out on a 5-trip with a start in England, and man, my brain has been grateful for the creative reset! It's been a minute since I had some time away from writing.

In the past week, I've stayed in Bradford-on-Avon with trips to Stourhead (recognizable to many from P&P) and Bath, and then Oxford where I did the fastest hit of the highlights I wanted to see (namely the Bodleian Library and Tolkien-related stuff).

Now in the Cotswolds, I'm feeling a bit more rejuvenated... and some of the writing itch is coming back. I'm hoping it'll keep on that track so I can tackle editing whenever feedback pops up. by @sarahartewrites

When Eli's eyes slid over her damp hands and the bag poorly concealed behind the frills of her dressing gown, she retrieved her scissors and moved toward the lavender. “It’s nothing of note. I was simply gathering flowers for my room.”

“Interesting to go for the lavender when there are so many other options.”

“Their scent is soothing.”

“Well, I hope you find somewhere appropriately ventilated to enjoy it,” he said good-naturedly. “While they can be calming, burning them doesn’t always have the same effect.”

Celia hummed and continued working without letting her movements catch at his accurate assumptions. He had already been suspicious of her purpose in town; this was hardly different. Nevertheless, his teasing grated. “If I find the need to burn them, perhaps you’d like to supervise and continue providing your bountiful insight.”

He laughed outright now. “Ah, Miss Romano.” He plucked one of the flowers and leaned toward her, sweeping the loosening hair of her braid over her shoulder before she could step back. Carefully, he tucked the bloom behind her ear but did not move away, the warmth of his touch echoing the unexpected warmth in his eyes. “I’m quite enjoying my time with you.”

Sometimes you just have a cutesy moment with the demon you're actively gathering plants to attempt exorcising. 😌

I started planning another commission for D&D with Mandhos (on tumblr) back in January, and I'm really glad they had time to work on it this past month! It's so fun to throw a bit of inspo over and see how it's interpreted. I'm always so impressed by the care and detail that goes into their work, and the vibes in this (the flowers! The lighting!) are 👌

Got to have such a nice holiday weekend away in Portland! Really can't get over the fact that there are SO many flower farms over there to enjoy (and Adelman Peony Gardens is free??)

Saw stuff that popped up in my writing research, tufted a rug for the first time (super cathartic, 10/10, highly recommend), had pizza in a cute literal mom and pop shop, and visited the very pretty Laurelhurst Park for the first time... overall, a really nice way to refill the well! by @sarahartewrites

Honestly have no idea how I managed this. Like. Huh??

When I decided to try writing a draft in 3 months, that already was ambitious. But I thought, hey, might as well give it a try - I had 4 months before my school year contract finished, so there was some buffer before a clean end goal.

Didn't expect to majorly crash out and not look at the draft for FIVE WEEKS in March/April... but I'm lucky to have an amazing agent who talked me off the ledge and gave me the feedback I needed to dive back in.

So here we are! Got this bad (and ho ho, I DO mean bad... I'm itching to start editing) boy done in 10 weeks of actual writing time. WILD.

Up next: reverse outlining to figure out how to stitch in the bits I didnt want to stop drafting to work out. ...while keeping in mind the goal of LOWERING the word count.

Writing has become an extremely digital process for me, from brainstorming to making visuals to the writing itself, and I realized I needed to shake things up a bit and introduce some new options. What better way than getting (mostly) functional things that add a little ✨️pizzazz✨️?
