My dad passed away 15 years ago, today. It will never stop being surreal that he chose to leave this planet. In becoming a parent, I can't imagine choosing to leave my daughter, but there will always be things we will never fully understand.
I miss him, there are so many things I wish I could share with him. I wish Zhané could have known him.
I am also grateful for the things he taught me in this life that I will pass on to my own child.
Hug your loved ones tight. Give folks their flowers while they are here. Check on even the strongest folks you know. You just never know what someone might be going through internally. taken in Palmdale, California by @sarahbetharnold

Dear Zhané,
This past year has gone by fast and slow all at the same time. Watching you grow into your little sassy self has been an absolute honor. You have made me present and have given me strength to lift buildings for you. I will always be there when you need me, even when I'm not here in a physical sense. Thank you for making me a mamma. 10 months!? Already!? It's really crazy how much Zhané changes every day. The leaps she has made in the last month have been huge. I've never met a baby with more FOMO than this little girl- falling asleep sitting up because she refuses to miss a moment. She's incredibly curious and observant and continues to make us laugh every day, even when we are exhausted 😴😴 My heart explodes looking at her. 💛💛💛💛 We love her so so so so much. taken in San Francisco, California by @sarahbetharnold

On this date, just 10 years ago, I moved to San Francisco. I took this photo right before I headed home to finish packing for the 70 mile drive from Santa Cruz. It has ALSO coincidentally been 40 weeks and 3 days since Zhané was born, which is the amount of time I was pregnant with her.
I look at myself 10 yeqrs ago, having no idea the incredible adventures that would take place over the course of 10 years in San Francisco: The community I've built, the family I'd be so lucky to gain, it's funny how unpredictable the future is. I'm grateful for all of it, the good and the bad. The struggle. The tears. The absolute joy.
