I will be bringing Elsie Treacle, the well-upholstered music hall turn to the Mind Your Head Art Cabaret hosted by Hot Snakes Night Club at TACO gallery.

As part of Hot Snakes Night Club (22 August - 13 September) Mind Your Head Art Cabaret returns to Thamesmead with Out of the Rubble, a surreal evening of humour, weirdness and pastiche with live art collaborations, music and site-specific occurrences that consider the perpetual demolition/rebuild of the area, as well as a wider sense of rebirth and recovery in difficult times. Mind Your Head compere’s Spruce Monkscyth (Calum F Kerr) & M’Lie-dee (Caroline Gregory) present a range of performers including Eva Lis and Robert Sookhan as Flying Carpets, Thamesmead’s luscious, lascivious and all-around lovely lady, Letti O’Burn accompanied by Sunnyboy Tyson, performance artists Maryam Sandjari Hashemi, Sarah Doyle, duo Sparkes Thompson, and musical social commentators, the Receipt, All Free!

Mind Your Head Art Cabaret is staged within The Hotsnakes Night Club, an immersive installation and performance space by artist Chloe Langlois. Co-curated by TACO! and Dinosaur Kilby, the club hosts a diverse programme of cabaret, live artist performance, workshops, and experimental music from invited artists and guests. Drawing on aesthetics of ‘social’ performance traditions such as clowning, folk rituals, stand-up comedy, vaudeville, and the occult, Langlois has transformed TACO! Into an artist nightclub complete with an artist-themed cocktail bar. by @sarahdoyleart

I’m excited to be showing work in Compound Notions, a four day exhibition exploring collage through the work of 64 contemporary artists.

My contribution draws from the endless scroll of online imagery, thinking about collage as a form of image consumption and a way of looking.

This weekend I visited @leicestergallery to see Blusher, the exhibition that includes my work Filterveil. Curated by @cathylomax, the show is well worth a visit to Leicester, especially if you’re into makeup and beauty culture in art.

Blusher is open until Saturday, 6th September
Monday to Friday: 10am–5pm
Saturday: 12pm–5pm

It was my first time in Leicester, and I really enjoyed exploring the city. I visited the museum and art gallery, which features Leicester’s internationally important German Expressionism collection. The last image in this carousel is from that exhibition, Woman Applying Makeup by Ernst Neuschul (1930), which ties in beautifully with Blusher.

Excited to be showing Filter Veil, part of my Popstar Makeovers project, in Blusher: Art, Makeup, and Materiality at Leicester Gallery, curated by @cathylomax
The show foregrounds makeup’s transformative qualities, its role in ritual, and its position in the commodification and codification of gender and race. I’m exhibiting alongside an incredible group of artists whose work spans performance, painting, video, sculpture, and more.
Filter Veil reimagines my 2005 project as AR face filters inspired by icons like Britney, Siouxsie Sioux, and Pete Burns. Though the filters have vanished from social media, I revived them by projecting them onto vintage film clips, layering pop glam over silent-era stars and exploring digital ephemerality, nostalgia, and celebrity image.
Blusher runs 12 July–6 Sept at Leicester Gallery, DMU. Private view: 11 July, 6–8pm (7pm speeches + performance by Hilde Krohn Huse).

Here is my animated drawing inspired by a look worn by Britney Spears. I still have over 100 of these popstar makeup drawings as I became very addicted to making them! I am unsure if I should continue scheduling them to go online as it is becoming a bit overwhelming but I don’t really know what else to do with this work apart from show it online. But is creating art that only exists online considered less ‘respectable’?
