✨ Capturing the beauty in everyday moments
🤍 Let’s tell your story ↓
POSTS STORIES REELS
We have some new faces around here, so it's about time I formally introduced myself... 👋 Hi, I’m Sarah—the face behind Sarah Grant Studios! Originally from sunny California, I'm now based in Central New York (Syracuse to be exact). And before you ask...yes, I do find the snowy winters to be a bit too much sometimes. 😆 My grandfather was an avid photographer and loved documenting family stories, so I grew up with a great appreciation for photography. And after about a decade in corporate marketing, I decided it was time to get back to what I really love: the chance to be creative, artistic, and work closely with people. So, whether it’s a cozy family morning, a special milestone, or fresh brand photos for a small business—I'm here to help tell your story. Stick around for sneak peeks, behind-the-scenes moments, and lots of everyday (often overlooked) magic. 📸 ✨ --- Syracuse Photographer | Syracuse Family Photography | CNY Photographer | Syracuse Brand Photography by @sarahgrantstudios
Dimples for dayssssss 🤩 This little cutie pie was all bubbly energy and adorable dimples. And his siblings were just as sweet. I can't wait to share more from this session! Wishing everyone a very spooktacular Halloween! May the only scary thing be the amount of candy you eat. 🍭🍬 --- Happy Halloween | Syracuse Portrait Photographer | Syracuse Family Photographer | Syracuse Family Photography | Candid Photography by @sarahgrantstudios
Okay, last one for this series...One of my all-time favorite prompts is "give mom/dad a big hug." 🤗 Seems simple, right? When taking these photos, I like to capture the parent enjoying the moment and the smiling face of their kiddo. Why? These smiles are the ones you often can't see, but they are some of the sweetest. Without a photo from this angle, parents miss the happy, content grins that come from these little moments. I love seeing these special smiles, and I hope you do too. 🥰 --- Syracuse Family Photographer | Syracuse Family Photography | Photography Session Tips | Behind the Scenes | Candid Photography by @sarahgrantstudios
I loved to spin and be spun as a kid, so this prompt has a special, very nostalgic place in my heart. 💚 It can be spinning to show off a flowy dress, holding hands with a sibling for ring-around-the-rosie, or being picked by by dad for a twirl...all have magical results. I like the soft edge to these photos as well. Sometimes it's a little blurr from the focus. Sometimes it's an intentionally slow shutter speed to capture the movement. And sometimes it's an artistic softening of the edges during editing. With an action prompt like this, do you prefer the crisp freeze-frame or the soft blurry movement? --- Syracuse Family Photographer | Syracuse Family Photography | Photography Session Tips | Behind the Scenes | Candid Photography by @sarahgrantstudios
Introducing the #PSL ZINE! Everything you thought you'd never need to know about trying and loving #pumpkinspicelatte in #somervillema (or anywhere). I've dropped over 200 copies in cafes and little free libraries across Somerville and apparently they go quickly! This zine was a labor of love and delight, and I'm so grateful to @sarahgrantstudios for making the design. More to come! PSL! PSL! PSL by @sarahgrantstudios
The wide eyes and wicked smiles make "run as fast as you can" another favorite family session prompt. 🤪 There's something special about being told you can let loose and run like the wind. It brings out big smiles in kids of all ages. It's also a great way to burn off nervous energy at the start of a session. And a perfect distraction for competitive siblings who want to race. They might not be the photo you frame right away, but I love the candid burst of energy that a quick sprint brings to a session. 🌟 --- Syracuse Family Photographer | Syracuse Family Photography | Photography Session Tips | Behind the Scenes | Candid Photography by @sarahgrantstudios
I always wonder what's actually being said... 🗣️ Another prompt I love is: "Tell the other person what you love most about them." There's a brief moment of anticipation, but the heartfelt smiles after an earnest admission bring so much joy. Sometimes it's profound, sometimes an inside joke, and sometimes just plain silly; but it's always a sweet moment with an even sweeter smile. 😁 --- Syracuse Family Photographer | Syracuse Family Photography | Photography Session Tips | Behind the Scenes | Candid Photography by @sarahgrantstudios
Ready...set...toss! It takes a few tries to get right, but this is one of my all-time favorite photo prompts. 🤩 Not only is it a favorite for the kiddos too, but the glee-filled smiles (and little squeals) are always a winner. And although the sky-hight throws are impressive, even a little toss in the air has an amazing outcome. Another reason I love this prompt so much? Kids outgrow this stage quickly, so it's an extra special memory of the times where they were little enough to fly. 🚀 --- Syracuse Family Photographer | Syracuse Family Photography | Photography Session Tips | Behind the Scenes | Candid Photography by @sarahgrantstudios
What does "I help provide light posing guidance" actually look like in a family session? 🤔 Great question! It means you'll get movement prompts and suggested actions (which are especially great for the kiddos). I like to provide enough guidance so you feel comfortable in front of the camera, but nothing so scripted that your photos look stiff or like a copy of someone else's album. Sessions that feel more like improve than a formal rehearsal produce authentic smiles and sweet, unexpected moments. This week I'll be sharing some of my favorite prompts so you can get an inside look at how I work. Follow along and let me know your favorite prompt style in the comments! ⬇️💬 --- Syracuse Family Photographer | Syracuse Family Photography | Photography Session Tips | Behind the Scenes | Candid Photography by @sarahgrantstudios
Helping someone feel comfortable in front of the camera brings me a lot of joy. And when it's a fellow photographer, the feeling is even better. 📷 When you're used to always being behind the camera it can be challenging to swap places—trust me, it's not my favorite thing either. So helping someone feel relaxed and at ease during a session is a big part of my job (and something I really enjoy). Thank you for the super kind words Josh! ☺️✨ --- Syracuse Photographer | Syracuse Brand Photography | CNY Photography | Portraits | Brand Imagery by @sarahgrantstudios
As soon as I saw the "Girl Dad" hat, I knew this was going to be a fun session. 😄 Not only were the little girls twinning perfectly, but mom and dad looked amazing in their jeans and white tees. Classy simplicity at its best. 🌟 And the smiles were top notch. Couldn't have asked for a more fun family at this mini session. --- Syracuse Family Photographer | Syracuse Family Photography | Family Portraits | Jamesville Beach Park | Mini Session Magic by @sarahgrantstudios
