Hi friends, I hope you're all well.

Without trying to sound too dramatic, I just wanted to let my regulars know that I'm going to take an extended break from instagram. I've been under a lot of stress lately and have been suffering from more headaches and migraines than I usually do. I find instagram to be too overstimulating and, at times, can suck so much wasted time out of my day. There are a handful of accounts that truly bring me joy, but they are usually hidden under a load of nonsense.

If you'd still like to keep in contact feel free to ask for my email address and alternatively you can find me over on substack -there is a link in my bio- or YouTube where I post the occasional short. I'd also like to start making some longer form videos there, too. Just search @ sarahlucas1999 😊

Take care, everyone, and have an awesome Summer ☀️ Byeee... by @sarahlulucas

Blackthorn in the #lgperpetualjournal. Sometimes (rarely), I'll draw my subject and not paint it for a week or so later, which isn't great considering the flowers on the stem I'd picked were completely wilted 🫠

Today is World Art Day, a day I didn't realise existed until this morning 😅 I'm sharing a few things that inspire me to create like sunsets and books as well as all the nature around me.

I hope you're all having a nice midweek day. We've had rain and a wee bit of sun peeping through grey clouds, then rain, then sun peeping through grey clouds on repeat all day. We're currently on the rain cycle. Spring seems to have left Ireland for now 😞

Anyway, take care 😊

Front lawn picnic blanket drawings.

I was bored 😄
Currently watching a robin and a chaffinch having a squabble while a bumble comes to say hello. Never a dull moment in the great outdoors.

Wishing you all a lovely day. by @sarahlulucas

Happy New Month 🤗

I thought I'd share some of my March 'messy' nature journal today. This is the one I usually take outdoors and don't often share on here. The first picture is more for grid aesthetics and is what I use to draw plein air.

📸
1. Annestown beach
2. Ballyvooney cove
3. Sketching birds from the window facing my desk
4. Home and the coast
5. Observing pigeons at the Aldi carpark 😅

I'm waiting for some paint to dry in my perpetual journal, but I'll share my March pages tomorrow. I'm sure you're all waiting with bated breath 😅

Wishing you all a lovely rest of the day 😊

When I started reading Seascraper, I was a bit unsure as to whether or not I liked it. It took me a minute to get into the writing, which is the complete opposite of everyone else's experience of immediately loving the writing. But I soon found my stride and was hooked by the 30 page mark.

Seascraper follows Tom, a shanker, whose job is to harvest shrimp from the shore of the sea. He lives in a very closed world almost to the point of claustrophobia, having inherited the business from his grandfather. The way in which Tom works, with horse and cart, gives him a quality that makes him seem much older than his 20 years. This timeless quality, which follows Tom around, was a deliberate decision by the author and one that worked very well. You could swear the book was set in the very early 20th century, but with cultural references such as Elvis and Roy Orbison being mentioned, we know we're in a much later period.

The book lacked chapters but did come in parts. This didn't inhibit the reading experience but rather pulled you along, not wanting to stop. It propels you along much like a movie would, this paralleling with one of the key characters, Edgar, a movie director. He seeks the assistance of Tom to take him out onto the foggy shore so he can gather reference footage for a film he wants to make.

Much like the shoreline with its close fog and dangerous sinkholes, making it a hard place to navigate, the characters also come with inherent flaws. Tom, who would rather be playing his guitar and singing folk songs, is relied upon for income by his mother. Edgar, who wants to make the next big movie, has his own flaws.
At only 130 odd pages, this book was deeply atmospheric and quite moving, and its characters will stick with me for some time to come.

Dandelion in the #lgperpetualjournal 30•3•2026

Happy new week. I hope it's starting well for you.

Today, while driving home, I noticed the greater stitchwort blooming in the hedges. I remember adding them to my journal last year and on checking the date it was exactly today 2025 that I saw my first stitchwort of the year. Amazing! This is what I love about the perpetual journal.

Wishing you all a great rest of the day and week ahead 🤗

This week in the #lgperpetualjournal, March 19-25

Saw my first butterfly of the year on Friday, a red admiral. In previous years, I've added gorse (2023) and greater periwinkle (2025).

Hope your day is full of sunshine and light ✨️

March 12-18th in the #lgperpetualjournal

New additions to the page are the Moth cocoon of an unknown species, found along the coast on the 14th, and the willow branch, which was painted today. I did notice the catkins of the willow for the first time on the 10th, however. The stonechat was last years addition to this page.

It's saint Patrick's Day in Ireland today, which means a holiday. It's weird having a day off mid week, but I'm not about to complain 😀

Hope you're all having a lovely day.
