A lovely day on Friday putting up our joint exhibition - ‘Cutwork’ at @feltongallery45 The three of us (@helen_poremba @sarahthemoodler and me) got together because we realised we all used some form of Cutwork, but in different media and with different tools - and we’ve had a great time getting together for artist dates as well. I’m really pleased with how the work looks now it’s collected together as it’s not just the techniques but our love of florals that we share ! Here’s a little preview; the exhibition is up until the end of September. We are also running a half day workshop next Saturday and there are a few places left so come and sample a few of our Cutwork techniques - booking via Galleryforty5 . taken in Gallery 45 by @sarahmorpeth

Coming soon - a joint exhibition at @feltongallery45 and a workshop ! Myself, @helen_poremba and @sarahthemoodler were chatting at Alnmouth art fair last year and realised that we all share a love of Cutwork techniques and we all use them in different ways. Which led of course to thinking about exhibiting together. Our ‘Cutwork’ exhibition will be at Gallery forty5 in Felton - opening 1st August and it goes on till the end of September. We’re also running a half day workshop which will be a lovely taster of a range of techniques that we use in our work. Bookings via the gallery. taken in Felton, Northumberland by @sarahmorpeth

Spent a while tying in a mass of unruly honeysuckle the other day .. and the next morning a thrush appeared and started to make a nest in it. She mustn’t mind the wind chimes hanging near it … I hope she settles in ! by @sarahmorpeth

An excellent article by @julianbaggini which explains more coherently than I can why I am so sick of the value of everything having to be justified by its usefulness … I did Classics at university - not for its transferable skills but simply because it was fascinating and I loved it. I am an artist now because it is just a wonderful way to spend my time. It is an end in itself not a means to better mental health or reducing my heart rate although those things may result from it. But they are not the point of doing it. And it’s really pervasive this sense that we have to justify doing enjoyable things by reference to some further purpose. Anyway the article is here if you are interested ! https://aeon.co/essays/instrumentalisation-is-making-everything-a-means-to-an-end by @sarahmorpeth

The look when I try to get her to move a bit further away from the hot burny thing ! Honestly she’d sit in the fire if she could. The labrador has removed himself to a cool patch of floor… by @sarahmorpeth

So what started as drawing jugs became jugs full of flowers .. and then it became a papercut somewhat unexpectedly ! It’s such a good practice to keep drawing as you never know what might result. And besides it’s just fun and goodness we need that at the moment. taken in Northumberland National Park by @sarahmorpeth

Oh January. I bribe myself this month - in exchange for doing the horrible tax return and all the other chores that seem to fall due - by just playing with lovely inks and pencils and paints in my sketchbook. And because it’s hard to start - I often go back to a course that I’ve loved. @helenwellsart just has such inspiring ideas - and I love her sense of colour and shape and sheer joy in exploring. It’s very different to my own art but that’s the glorious thing. I always start off with things that look rather like the other person’s work but keep working away and repeating until my own style comes through. Here’s the very ‘Helen’ inspired first few pages. Just bringing in the colour is so uplifting. I blame it entirely for my completely over the top seed order - my garden is going to be pink and orange… watch this space ! taken in Northumberland National Park by @sarahmorpeth

Oof. My springer is just refusing to take any pills - she is so picky about eating at the moment and she is suspicious of anything I give her … wrapping them in Brie worked for a while but no more … any suggestions? She’s so clever about holding them in her mouth and spitting them out later ! taken in Northumberland National Park by @sarahmorpeth
