Scenes from the SPRL Vintage Showroom, NYC.

A weekend surrounded by beautiful vintage, familiar faces, and new connections. Such a pleasure to bring a selection of Sarah Laura Carla vintage and original silk scarves to the showroom.

Thank you @sprl.shop for having me and putting together such a beautiful event. 🤍 taken in Tribeca by @sarahnasgo

It’s been a while since I’ve made something just for myself. More often than not, I’ll start something, decide a seam or the fit isn’t quite right, and put it away in a box to be forgotten.

I realized I’ve been doing the same thing with the boxes of handmade lace and doilies passed down to me from my grandmothers. Pieces I’ve admired for years, taking them out every so often and dreaming about what they could become, but always putting them back. They felt too precious to cut into, and none of my ideas ever felt quite worthy enough.

But what good is something precious if I’m too afraid to use it?

So I finally took one out of the box, cut into it, and made something to wear. I added hand-tied silk organza fringe and little freshwater pearl closures along the sides. It isn’t perfect, but maybe that was part of the exercise, letting go of the idea that something has to be perfect to be worth making.

And I got to wear it for the first time somewhere particularly special, celebrating @nick_gutowski and the beautiful room he and his team @robbinsarchitecture created for the @kbshowhouse . 🤍 taken in Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse by @sarahnasgo
