A sampler of shorthand in cross stitch taken from my grandmother’s 1929 edition of Gregg Shorthand with a monogram of lost ribbons, from my Amsterdam photos, at the top.
The shorthand reads: memory, life, carry, remember, fold, thread, stitch, lifetime, together.

I’m thrilled to share that this fall I’ll have a solo exhibition at De Katoendrukkerij in the historic wool fulling mill, de Volmolen, in Amersfoort, NL entitled A Thread To Follow.
From Oct 2 – Dec 12, 2026, I’ll be showing textile and photo work made since moving to The Netherlands in 2019—with nods to ThreadWritten travels and workshop research.

Alongside the exhibition, I’ll be teaching two in-person embroidery workshops:
-The Global Chain Stitch
-Drawing With Thread

Curating and making new work for the exhibition will be a major focus this year, and I can’t wait to share it with you!

As I was warming my small coffee cup this morning, I was reminded of my Dad always doing this for his morning tea. His technique (faster swirl with less water) and cup (coffee mug) were different. A nice way to remember him today in a simple gesture and one that feels like care.

How&Wow, Crafts Council Nederland- Dutch Design Week 2025, now through October 26 in Eindhoven. I’m proud to have my kerchief-inspired, folk floral, mapping embroidery in the exhibition with a fantastic group of people working with craft practices in The Netherlands.

Hungarian embroidery is easily recognizable by its bold motifs and distinctive colors, though the styles vary greatly across a relatively small region. Typically worked in red, blue, black or white threads, the materials used in folk embroidery were influenced by availability, particularly in times of war. The designs, often dense and highly textured depictions of local flora and mythology, are drawn by sought-after artisans called “íróasszonyok,” or drawing women. Hungarian embroidery has been passed down through generations, and not only between women: men would typically embroider leather or canvas, while women worked with lighter fabrics. The embroideries traditionally decorated formal or military attire, and later spread into everyday garments as material access expanded.
