📖 Time for Sarah’s annual AZ build book post📖.I actually was typing this the night before the competition so I discovered (to my mild embarrassment) that not only had I forgotten to bold words for readability, I had typos EVERYWHERE and even had left over captions from the original document I used as a template 🫣. Apologies to the judges who were handed the messy version (I was very sleep-deprived when making it). I have gone back and fixed the major issues so now I will post this without cringing as much. Please, enjoy my absolutely insane speed build that was done in two months with nothing but coffee and sheer audacity. ..#buildbook #cosplaybuildbook by @sarelcon

Since I am still buzzing with energy from AZ, here’s the build book I put together for this horrible cannibal man. I tried a new way of doing this since there was a lot of deliberate but unusual decisions I made for Sukuna. I wanted my intentions to be communicated as clearly as possible. Anyways, enjoy seeing how I overcomplicated the most simple design ever. I don’t know how to keep things basic anymore 😂....#cosplaybuildbook #buildbook #cosplayprogress #cosplaymaker #sukunacosplay #jjkcosplay #animazement2025 #animazementcosplay #selfmadecosplay by @sarelcon

Last Necromancer post: the leather one!.Every single belt on this cosplay is veg-tan leather that was cut, tooled, dyed, and stitched by hand. I spent many hours hammering in holes or metal hardware and discovered the wonders of leather contact glue and leather snaps on this project. I was at my wit’s end a few times because it’s a newer medium for me but the results did come out so scrumptious in the end. I am now hooked on leather. Expect me to find excuses to use it from now on..Two weights of leather were used: 1-3 oz and 5-6 oz. Two dyes were used as well: Angelus Dark Brown and Fieblings Saddle Tan + black antiquing paste to darken it slightly. For hardware, there’s rivets, buckles, snaps, Chicago screws, O rings, and triangular O rings. .There’s also three different stitches used! The main one was the leapfrog stitch (saddle stitch but worked one side at a time without a stitching pony). I used a reversed cross stitch and a baseball stitch too. ..#cosplaydetails #cosplayarmor #diablocosplay Cutting the breastplate piecesTooling the breastplate. There’s a simple beveled edge but the magic is the rocks that I used to make my leather look old and well-used. I did the same thing for all the other large pieces of armor and for the pouch.Belts. God, SO many belts. These were all stamped with a skulls stamp and hole punched for decorative saddle stitching The difference between the base dye (right) and the antiqued look (left). I didn’t seal my leather before antiquing so this worked kind of like glazing with oil paint. I added a protective layer post antiquing.Staged picture of my burnishing tools. Yes, I use my embroidery wax for leatherwork too (even if that’s not “proper”). It works pretty well for burnishing edges and it’s easy to buy in bulk.Contact gluing in the Chicago screws that attach the breastplate sections. It’s only permanently attached at the shoulders. The bands that go aorund my chest are completely removeable. This way, the breastplate packs flat. The collar is an entirely separate piece that also lays flat.First test fitting of the breastplate. 💀Another Necro armor post (General process + paint) 💀.The base of the armor is Worbla but the details are all sculpted, molded in plaster, and then cast with latex. I had to heavily score the Worbla before gluing (which was super annoying but necessary). .Priming and sanding up to 1000 grit with wet sanding passes took days of work. Then it was paint time. Gloss hammered black from Behr, Molotow Burner Chrome for the base and then the hand painting insanity. I have a picture of all the different paints I layered via paint washes/glazes and dry-brushing. I experimented with a fabric paint for the glaze and then also with my “highlights” actually just being a more pure and reflective silver. The highlights are Mirror Chrome from @culturehustle and it’s magic in a bottle btw. Expensive but worth it for the pigment pay-off....Also finally counted and realized there’s 41 latex casts on just the armor. I was insane for building this in two months 😅. I feel tired just looking back the wip photos..#cosplayarmor #cosplayprogress #diablocosplay #cosplaydetails by @sarelcon

At last, the long-since-promised collection of videos I took while sculpting the flesh book’s cover 💀💀.This was so relaxing to sculpt but later was very stressful. It ended up involving a failed mold and trying something completely new to get a cast all while on a VERY tight deadline. I ended up applying casting latex directly to the sculpt and, to my eternal gratitude, it worked! I will never get tired of sculpting weird, organic textures no matter the type of clay. But I’ll pass on the con crunch..Made with Monster Clay medium.....#sculptingprocess #cosplaywip #cosplaymaker by @sarelcon

More Necromancer stuff since I finally can breathe and actually share details in a post..A common question I got on Saturday was “that’s latex??!” Yes it is! A huge part of this cosplay was the sculpting/casting for the details using casting latex. I ended up doing over 30 latex casts including the massive one for the book (though honestly he should count as at least 5 by himself). Honestly, I loved this technique and will be 1000% using it again on a project where I have more time to enjoy it properly. It’s my favorite part of the build tbh. I used it on Worbla but this should work on EVA foam too since latex is flexible (and you will have an easier time gluing too). I highly recommend giving this unconventional material a try...Also, I have clips from when I did the book sculpt. Are y’all interested in watching the flesh horror being built with the forbidden chocolate (aka Monster clay)? ...#diablocosplay #cosplaywip #cosplaydetails #cosplayarmor by @sarelcon

I survived Animazement 2027 and the craziest con crunch this world has ever seen. I couldn’t have done it without my amazing friends and the AZ competition Discord to help me stay sane and motivated. And a huge shout-out to Griffin (Roy Mustang) who was my handler on comp day and helped me into the armor. Despite literally gluing my armor together the night before the contest, the judges chose me for 3rd masters. I can’t believe this janky set got a ranked award and I’m so grateful for it 😭. The AZ comp community is so amazing, from the contestants to the staff. I can’t wait to come back next year! ...#animazement #animazement2026 #animazementcosplay by @sarelcon

🗡️Maellum post🗡️.I totally forgot to share my favorite part of my Maelle speed build. It’s the prop (of course). This was a whirlwind of sanding and layers of paint but I absolutely love how it turned out. Below is the details for those who come after. .Base model is from @thedangerousladies and adjusted to be printed in two halves. There’s a steel rod glued in with 2-part epoxy glue. Primer? My beloved Rustoleum 2-in-1 sandable filler primer. There was also some Bondo body filler for the rough patches. The cross guard loops were finished separately and glued on after painting..Gloss black from Rustoleum for a color base and then Montana Gold spray paint in gold for the main color. I used so many paints for the details (random acrylic washes in black and brown, bronze store brand acrylic paint, Stewart Semple’s gold, Folk Art Treasure gold, and Hex Flex dark gold for the “silver” highlights). .The last thing done on the sword was the handle. It is 3oz. veg-tan leather with some minor tooling. It was dyed and then I hit the details with some Angelus dark gold paint before sealing it. ..#maellecosplay #expedition33cosplay #expedition33maelle #cosplayprogress #cosplayprop by @sarelcon

Triad roundup post, cosplay staff edition!!.Staffing with the southern Nostalgia cons Cosplay Dept. is always the best time and this was no different. Triad was a whirlwind where I ended up leaving with my heart full, my stomach hurting from laughing so hard, and my suitcase missing one pair of pants (tragically had the fabric fall apart on me, in public no less). The contestants were incredible, as always, and our judges were fantastic. I’m sad that we’re done already with cons for the year and I can’t wait until January next year to hang out with some of my favorite people in our cosplay room again. Y’all are the best and appreciate you all so much!...#triadanimecon #cosplaystaff #triadanimecon2026 by @sarelcon

🗓️ My @animateraleigh schedule for this weekend +lineup 🗓️..I’ll be running a more brief version of my usual foam panel and also hosting my hand painting panel this weekend in addition to be a craftsmanship judge. I am so excited to see everyone’s work ‘cause I know that the NC craftsmanship community means business and always does phenomenal work. If anyone wants feedback from the contest, there isn’t an official time slot in the schedule but my DMs are open and I’ll be chilling at my table on Sunday up until my panel. Please come find me there if you want in-person feedback (which I personally prefer). I’ll also be bringing the legendary fabric goop embroidery to be working on at my table and there will be a rare Orb Son sighting (he’s coming as a panel example). .I am packing for Animate and still recovering from this past weekend’s events but I am SO excited to see my NC cosplay folks again. Please come by and say hi this weekend if you can!..#animateraleigh #animateraleigh2026 by @sarelcon

Random Maelle progress photo dump:.It has been literal ages since I’ve posted and unfortunately I don’t have a lot of progress pics from Maelle to share (I was crafting at light speed). I’m definitely not 100% happy with all of this cosplay since there are a few major fit issues but the fact that I made this in a month is still crazy to me. Three years ago, fresh-out-of-armor-crafting me would have NEVER been able to sew a full cosplay in a month, much less one with as many details as Maelle. I also was doing a lot of new things in terms of patterning so I’ll call this a win even if it isn’t perfect. .I am already planning what to fix after the test wear at SwordFest. Thanks to how I did the temporary finishes, I should be able to alter it pretty easily. The cosplay is just as comfortable as I hoped with full range of movement and pockets. Maelle will definitely join my ranks of commonly worn cosplays...Patterns made by me, fabric is from my stash for the most part, and the Maellum files are from the fabulous @thedangerousladies who have once again become the MVP for my rushed projects...#cosplaywip #cosplayprogress #expedition33cosplay #cosplaysewing by @sarelcon

Starting off 2026 with a an overly ambitious dream to try to finish the goop embroidery by the end of this year. I did manage to finish half of one sleeve this week (second pic) but I still have 1.5 more sleeve to go 😅. I hope everyone is ready to see me toting these sleeves with me EVEYWHERE this year as I try to squeeze in every last possible second of work. I have a desperate need to get this thing wearable instead of living in a bag. .For those who don’t have context, this is my crazy fabric goop texture for a plague bearer reimagining of White No Face from the Heaven Official’s Blessing novels. It will be weathered within an inch of its life to look disgusting at some point. ....#cosplaywip #cosplayprogress #whitenofacetgcf #cosplayembroidery #tgcfcosplay by @sarelcon
