Hardware mode is more or less finished. This is the final layout of the bay. How about those AlphaLocs!!! I tried to make everything easy to work on in the future. A vacuum block from @vibrant_performance simplifies the intake manifold. A custom 5/8” heater core hard line to run to the radiator’s new location. The @improvedracing oil thermostat now sits cleanly on the frame rail and it triangulates the oil cooler lines. The @fuelab_fuel_systems filter now sits where the OEM unit was, next to it the flex-fuel sensor. I made an effort to use P-clamps and all sorts of mounts to hold everything sturdily so nothing moves. Even the -8AN PTFE fuel lines use the factory undercarriage holders. And lastly I made a custom carbon fiber plate to hold the HDP20 47-pin firewall connector to the ECU. Which is my segue on to wiring up the Nexus R5 @haltechecu

Thanks to @dori7os_fd3s @7sdaysea for putting together another 7’s Day Drive and Event for the books. To @racecentric for the venue, and to the judges for the “Best FC” trophy 🏆 and @aermachina for the killer photos!
We really ought to start gathering more than once a year; rotaries are so few these days so it’s really something when they all come out. Also, man all the work in the suspension really paid off, the car feels planted and so nimble in the corners. Even with the “big block” 20B, all the stiffening bars and tubular suspension from T3 keeps that tight feeling of agility.

Constructed with high quality TXL wire, raychem DR-25 sheathing and premium booting materials like raychem SCL and ATUM. Fully sealed ignition coil connectors to prevent dirt/liquid ingress.
Customer must source their own:

GOOD READ👇🏼Why would you want CDI for your rotary? Before I post about the product, I figured I’d explain why folks would need it. Nobody makes an off-the-shelf harness for rotaries due to it being wired a bit differently.
Your typical Haltech/AEM/GM IGN-1A smart coils take battery voltage and amplify it to thousands volts to produce their rated 105mJ of spark energy. Between firing cycles the coil takes time to charge that voltage, called dwell time. On a piston engine that coil has time to charge during the intake/compression/exhaust stroke. It only fires at the start of the power stroke. On a rotary engine there is no rest for the coil, as each rotor face is a combustion event when it sweeps past the spark plugs. Now add some rpm, some extra psi of boost, some extra fuel and you begin to see how difficult of an environment that becomes to sustain a consistent spark. You’ll be lucky to even have half of that spark energy rating when you need it most. CDI cuts through all of that. It stands for capacitive discharge ignition. A CDI box is a separate unit which amplifies battery voltage and stores it in capacitors, delivers it to the coils already amplified. The coils amplify it further but the don’t need as much time as the charge is already multiplied. Think of it as a compound-turbo setup. So when the coil is told to fire, it does so with immense full energy (150mJ) no matter the engine speed. It is used in the highest levels of motorsport where the rpm and boost are the highest.
You get to have extremely clean fueling, extremely precise ignition firing, and crisp engine response. Any boost, any fuel, any rpm, it simply does not care. by @sash_fc

Off-season update. At the end of summer I decided to pull the engine out and find the cause of vibration. The eccentric shaft was bent. I won’t bore you with the numbers but it’s worth mentioning hardly any OEM 20B shafts are straight from the factory. Also this shaft called for C, D, C-weight rotors while mine were all three C-weight. Mazda did remanufacture warrantied 20B’s in the 90’s and I’m sure some parts were mixed around. This engine had never been opened prior to me building it so I’m sure it was all Mazda. ANYWAYS, I corrected the shaft straight to Mazda’s FD specs, then the entire assembly got balanced under half gram for 10k RPM. Next week it’s getting assembled and dropped in. Zero other changes. Now I can finally ring it out to full rpm, full boost, and realize this build. 😬

The stars aligned and the car made it to a rotary specific event somehow. I hardly took photos of the @7sdaysea main event, but here are some rollers from the cruise a week prior! The highlight was catching up with John of @legend.motorsports who flew in from Michigan to see the boys.Thanks to @g_rat206 @dori7os_fd3s @racecentric for putting this one together, it’s not easy nor cheap. Shoutout to @joriphoto @derickyanphoto.auto @2poorty for the camera work around Mercer Island. Congrats to @fd3s.pnw and @cooliomo on them awards 🏆

1991年式マツダRX-7（FC3S）は、日本のチューナーカーカルチャーにおいて象徴的な存在。軽量、後輪駆動、13Bロータリーという三拍子が揃い、今なお多くのファンを魅了している。
しかし、AlexのFCはもはや純正とはかけ離れた存在である。おそらく4人目のオーナーとして9年間所有され、3ローター仕様へと進化を遂げたこのマシンは、どこへ行っても注目を集める。

エンジンルームには20B 3ローターエンジンを搭載し、BorgWarner製EFR9280ターボを組み合わせている。
巨大な6インチTreadStone TR1260インタークーラー、Radium製フューエルシステム、Injector Dynamics ID1300x／ID2600xdsインジェクターがそのパワーを支える。すべてはHaltech Nexus R5 VCUと、@rghtbraindesignのRyanによる綿密なチューニングによって制御されている。

パワーはカスタムドライブシャフトを通じて、370Z用CD009トランスミッションからFord 8.8デフへと伝達される。
サスペンションはフロントにT3製コントロールアームとタイロッド、GSP製車高調（アップグレード必須レベル）を装備し、リアはポリウレタン＋ソリッドブッシュとPoweredByMax製ピロブッシュのハイブリッド構成。

外装はShineAuto製Spec-REフロントフェイス、サイドスカート、ディフューザーに加え、RE雨宮Pro2000ウイングを装着。
視覚的にも攻撃的な佇まいに仕上がっている。
イベント会場にAlexのFCが現れるたび、「特別な瞬間」が生まれ、真の3ローターFC3Sを理解するギャラリーが自然と集まってくる。

Alexがこの車を手に入れた理由は、かつて手放した初代FCと350Zの後に失われた「90年代チューナーカー体験」を取り戻すため。そして今回は、すべてを完璧に仕上げた。
思い出深いのは、仲間と参加した2日間のロールレースイベントや、130mphで宙に浮いたストリートレース時代のワンシーン。今はもう過去の話だが、その記憶もまた、このビルドの伝説を形作っている。

Happy belated 7’s day - Alex and his High-End 20B FC3S

The 1991 Mazda RX-7 (FC3S) is one of the most iconic car in the Japanese tuner car world renowned for its lightweight, rear-wheel-drive, and 13B engine. But Alex’s RX-7 is far from stock. Now in his hands for nine years as likely the fourth owner, it’s been transformed into a serious 3-rotor build that turns heads wherever it goes.

Under the hood is a 20B 3-rotor engine paired with a BorgWarner EFR9280 turbo, supported by a massive 6” TreadStone TR1260 intercooler, Radium fuel system, and Injector Dynamics ID1300x/ID2600xds injectors. A Haltech Nexus R5 VCU, expertly tuned by Ryan from @rghtbraindesign, keeps everything running at peak performance.

Power is sent through a 370Z CD009 transmission to a Ford 8.8 differential via a custom driveshaft. Suspension-wise, the front features T3 control arms and tie rods with GSP coilovers (in dire of upgraded), while the rear is equipped with a mix of polyurethane and solid bushings and PoweredByMax spherical bearings.

On the exterior, it has a ShineAuto Spec-RE front fascia, side skirts, diffuser, and an RE-Amemiya Pro2000 wing, giving the car an aggressive look. Every time Alex pulls up to an event, his FC brings a “sense of occasion,” drawing in crowds who appreciate the high-end craftsmanship of a proper 3-rotor FC3S.

Alex bought the car to recapture the thrill of a ‘90s tuner car experience he missed after selling his first FC and owning a 350Z. And this time, he did it right. Some of his best memories include a two-day roll-racing event at an old airstrip with friends and a wild moment from his street racing days, catching air at 130 mph! Though those days are behind him, the story adds to the legend of this unique build.
